Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

The City of "The LORD is There"
What's the name of your city?

There is one called "The LORD is there".

Last evening, at our mid-week Wednesday bible study, we covered the last chapter of Ezekiel; the series began in Jan 2016.

The book ends with this most majestic statement, "... and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there."

The book of Ezekiel ends in a glorious way. The last section, chapters 40-48, on the vision of the new Jerusalem and the new temple climaxed with the allotment of inheritance to the twelve tribes of Israel, and the description of the holy city in their midst. It is even more amazing that the strangers, the aliens among them, are singled out for first and special attention concerning that inheritance.

The inheritance of the strangers/aliens among the Israelites are stated in these solemn words (47:22-23)

22 "And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

23 And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord GOD."

- Though they are aliens and strangers, they have equal standing as native-born when it comes to inheritance. They are entitled to be treated as native Israelites.

- These strangers are free to move and settle among all the twelve tribes, they shall have their inheritance. No tribe shall discriminate against these strangers.

- Every tribe, without exception, is under divine obligation to receive them as equal.

With the inheritance of the strangers clearly settled, the account moves to the inheritance of the twelve tribes of Israel, with the holy city in the midst of their inheritance.

And the name of the city is called "The LORD is there!" What a city in which to dwell!

Eze 48:35b

And the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.
