Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Preach away from your pews!!

1Chronicles 25:
1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should PROPHESY with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

2. Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which PROPHESIED according to the order of the king.
3 Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who PROPHESIED with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD...
6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.
7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

Singing the songs of the LORD in the house of the LORD is prophesying,

The singers of the songs of the LORD are exercising a prophetic ministry through their singing; a prophetic ministry is a ministry of proclaiming and communicating the truth of God.

Note carefully the designation attached to each of these three leaders together, and singly: ‘of Asaph, of Heman and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy’ (v1); Asaph – ‘which prophesied according to the order of the king’ (v2); Heman – ‘the king’s seer in the words of God’ (v5); and Jeduthun: ‘who prophesied with a harp to give thanks, and to praise the LORD’ (v3).

These designations clearly indicate the prophetic nature of their singing ministry, i.e. songs must proclaim the glorious truth of redemption purposed, and executed/accomplished by the LORD, and applied to the benefits of His elect people.

Hymns properly sung is like preaching on the subject being sung. They are intended for the edification and sanctification of saints and the conversion of sinners.

Ephesians 5
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.

Col 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Now everyone can prophesy/preach from the comfort of the pews... SING the songs of the LORD; sing heartily and lustily.

Beware of singing lies in the house of the LORD. Remember the warning against the sacrifice of fool - "Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil." Ecc 5:1.

Let us all be preaching by singing the glorious truths of God and His work of redemption – to give thanks and praises unto our LORD.

The new covenant requires congregational singing in worship services – not solos, duets, or choir!
