Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

We look for new heavens and a new earth...

Apostle Peter wrote to those Jewish believers
who have obtained like precious faith
these words around about AD 66.

"11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."

Please note the word "heavens" is in the plural, and Peter was writing to Jewish believers.

Many assume and take for granted that the phrases 'coming of the day of God' and ‘new heavens and new earth’ must necessarily relate to the second coming of Christ, and not the gospel age perfected after the destruction and abolition of the very ancient and earthly theocratic Israel in 70AD.

The ‘new heavens and a new earth’
is a prophetic term
that speaks of the new gospel age
after it has been purged and delivered
from the harassment of the old covenant.

The language of the heavens and earth being abolished and destroyed indicates the cataclysmic and violent nature of the complete overthrow and obliteration of the ANCIENT theocratic nation of Israel. "New heavens and a new earth" is a description of the gospel age after the old has been completely abolished... thus leaving only the new and superior order of the new covenant. The dissolution of the 'old heavens and earth' most certainly will profoundly affect the Jewish people personally and practically - the dissolution will happen in their time... the abolition of old earthly theocratic Israel. The removal of the old resulted in the new heavens and a new earth,  a description of the new spiritual kingdom of Christ free from the pesky baggage of the olf covenant.

1. Consider these passages:
Isa 65:17 "For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind."

This is a prophecy concerning the removal of the old covenant, thus resulting in the dawning of the gospel age purged of all the relics of the old. The former, earthly theocratic Israel with all its trappings and baggage shall be COMPLETELY abolished! (This was fulfilled in AD 70).

Isa 66: 22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.”

Both of these passages are found in the context of the prophecy concerning the dawning of the gospel age, and the abolition of the old covenant order - temple, sacrifices, etc. The context in both is REMOTELY connected with the second coming of Christ.

It seems that the new heavens and new earth spoken of is the new covenant which remains and freed from the last remnant of the old, and the former heavens and earth that shall be done away. The dawning of the gospel age is marked by the coming of the kingdom of heaven, slowly but surely replacing the earthly kingdom of the theocratic Jewish nation, which was completely and finally done away with in 70AD, resulting in an epoch marked by "the new heavens and a new earth."

Haggai 2:6-9 “For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; and I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord.”

When the Lord shake out the old heavens and old earth, what is left is the new heavens and new earth... the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind, i.e. the former shall be abolished permanently. That's is the day of God spoken of - when the Lord shall shake the heavens and the earth... only the new will remain.

The language in Haggai is similar to that used by the Lord in Mt 24.29-30 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."

It seems to me that the Lord's word here is intimately related to the words in Is 65:17 "For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind" and Haggai 2 "I will shake the heavens, and the earth." The shaking of the heavens and the earth is accompanied by the making of the new heavens and the new earth.

The new heavens and a new earth in Isaiah, Haggai and 2Pet speak of the new world order of the gospel age completely freed of the old, in contrast to the old covenant age narrowly confined to the tiny Jewish nation. The end of the Jewish economy is such a radical and cataclysmic transformation that it is only adequately described as doing away with the former heavens and earth, and the establishing of the new heavens and new earth.

2. Read Gill's comment on 'the new creature' of 2Cor 5:17
Here he speaks of the gospel dispensation as the new heavens and new earth. Note especially the closing statements at the end of the quote:
=====
He said, "the sense of the whole may be this, if any man is entered into the kingdom of God, into the Gospel dispensation, into a Gospel church state, which seems to be the sense of the phrase "in Christ," in Galatians 3:28 he is become a new creature, or is got into a new creation, as it were into a new world, whether he be a Jew or a Gentile;
- for with respect to the former state of either, "old things are passed away"; if a Jew, the whole Mosaic economy is abolished; the former covenant is waxen old, and vanished away; the old ordinances of circumcision and the passover are no more; the daily sacrifice is ceased, and all the other sacrifices are at an end, Christ, the great sacrifice, being offered up; the priesthood of Aaron is antiquated, there is a change of it, and of the whole law; the observance of holy, days, new moons and sabbaths, is over; the whole ceremonial law is at end; all the shadows of it are fled and gone, the things they were shadows of being come by Christ, the sum and substance of them; and there is no more a serving God in the oldness of the letter, but in the newness of the Spirit:
- and if a Gentile, all the former idols he worshiped he turns from, and his language is, "what have I to do any more with idols? or what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?" all former sacrifices, superstitious rites and ceremonies, with which he worshiped them, are relinquished by him; with all other Heathenish customs, rules, and methods of conduct he had been used to: "behold, all things are become new";
- to the one, and to the other; the Gospel dispensation is a new state of things; a new form of church state is erected, not national, as among the Jews, but congregational, consisting of persons gathered out of the world, and anew embodied together; new ordinances are appointed, which were never in use before, as baptism and the Lord's supper; a new and living way is opened by the blood of Christ into the holiest of all, not by the means of slain beasts, as among the Jews, nor by petty deities as with the Gentiles; a new commandment of love is enjoined all the followers of the Lamb; and another name is given them, a new name, which the mouth of the Lord their God has named, not of Jews nor Gentiles, but of Christians; and new songs are put into their mouths, even praise to God:

In short, the Gospel church state seems to be, as it were, a new creation, and perhaps is meant by the new heavens and new earth, Isaiah 65:15 as well as those who are the proper members of it, are new creatures in the sense before given." [end quote].

3. The apostles speak of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in plain language, without prophetic figures. -  2Th 1:7ff, 2Tim 4:1.

2Th 1:7 "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

At the end of the gospel age, the redeemed shall enter into their eternal inheritance, reserved for them in the heaven [singular], different and distinct from the "the new heavens" that the believing Jews, prior to 70AD, were looking forward to.

The believing Jews, after 70AD, were indeed living in a time of the "new heavens and a new earth" - with the theocratic nation of Israel completely obliterated, never to be established again. The bitter enmity from the unbelieving Jews was destroyed with the abolition of the theocratic nation. It is an age most fittingly described as "new heavens and a new earth."

The Vastness of God's Grace to Stomach His children's nonsense

The riches of His goodness, and forbearance and longsuffering

Dear Brother Hawke

I am glad to hear that your queen is listening to that bible study on unconditional salvation. I have listened it a few times some while ago. I have read carefully your mail above several times in order to grasp what you are actually saying. I do hope I have understood your concern... because I need to scratch where the itch is. Please let me make some comments. I want to be brief... so please ask further if you don't get what I am saying.

For the first matter, please have your Bible opened at 1Cor. 10.
1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they ['all our fathers'] drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them ['all our fathers']: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them ['all our fathers'] God was not well pleased: for they ['many' out of 'all our fathers'] were overthrown in the wilderness.

Please note most carefully the phrase 'all our fathers' in verse 1. This phrase defines the extent and the context of the 'all' that are spoken of in the following verses.

Please remember that Apostle Paul is writing to the Gentiles believers in Corinth. All those who crossed the Red Sea during the Exodus were chiefly Jews. To these Gentiles believers in Corinth, who among those that had crossed the Red Sea with Moses in the Exodus could be said to be their fathers? Surely NO natural Jews can in any sense be said to be the fathers of these Gentile believers in Corinth. Who then?

Apostle Paul is undoubtedly speaking specifically of the SPIRITUAL Jews among all those that crossed the Red Sea during Exodus. ONLY the SPIRITUAL Jews among all them that crossed the Red Sea constituted 'all our fathers' to those spiritual Gentiles of Corinth.

So Apostle Paul is NOT referring to ALL those, EVERY ONE without distinction, that crossed the Red sea under the leadership of Moses. Many were natural Jews... were never among the elect of God. "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." Romans 2:28-29. "Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel." Roman 9:6.

With many of them (pronoun 'them' referring to 'all our fathers' in verse 1) God were not pleased. Many of them were among the Jews who sinned against God in the wilderness - in their sin of unbelief, idolatry, fornication. They were found in the company of the natural Jews who sinned, and were overthrown in the wilderness. And they were overthrown in the wilderness, along with the other natural Jews, i.e. they were visited by God's judgment of natural death for their sins in the wilderness.

Instead of entering into the natural rest of the beautiful land of Canaan, they ['many' among 'all our fathers'] died prematurely in the wilderness. They ( many among 'all our fathers) suffered the fierce wrath of God against their sins. They were truly God's children, but that did not exempt them for one moment from the fierce displeasure of God the Father against their sin. God overthrew them - cut them down in the wilderness. It is precisely they were not bastards, but God's children, that they were severely scourged and chastised... many even unto physical death.

God can't possibly be the author of sin. His holiness recoils against sins, His commandments THUNDER against sins, and His hot displeasure is pour forth against the sins of His very own children - to the extent of terminating their lives prematurely. God is certainly no author, nor condoner of sin, but the HATER and PUNISHER of sin.

Apostle Paul quoted the Exodus event as a stern warning for the SAINTS, God's children in Corinth - DON'T follow the examples of YOUR FATHERS... you shall suffer the same fate. You shall be overthrown by God just as many of them had been. God DIDN'T spare your fathers in the OT, so don't be deceived that He would spare you now if you provoke Him to wrath with your sins.

Verse 6: "Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted." They are abundant examples of the hot displeasure and wrath of God kindled against the sexual sins found among His children. "Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents." 1Cor 10:8.9. Apostle Paul was dealing with a real problem among the SAINTS of the church in Corinth.

Later in the chapter 11, Apostle Paul reminded the Corinthian believers that many of them were ALREADY dead because they abused the ordinance of the Lord's Supper. They handled holy things of God with unholy hands. "For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep" [dead, overthrown by God's hot displeasure].

God terminated their earthly life. All these with whom God was displeased and put to sleep, they shall be woken up to eternal glory when Christ returned to be glorified in ALL His saints. So also many out of 'all our fathers' whom God overthrown in the wilderness. Ah, eternal salvation is indeed by God's free and unconditional grace.

Obedience DO LENGTHENS life. "My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee." Pr 3:2. Disobedience may provoke God to cut us off before our time." Our life span is not fixed or decreed.

Eternal salvation is indeed by God's free and sovereign grace. Temporal salvation is conditioned upon our obedience. Disobedience incurs the hot displeasure of God... and many of God's children were overthrown... destroyed in the temporal sense... deprived of enjoying temporal blessings.

God deals with His children (saved by His free and sovereign grace) at free moral agents, and hold them responsible for their actions under His moral government. Obedience brings blessings, disobedience bring curses. The Bible is full of these examples... both from the OT and the NT. Immorality incurred God's severe wrath... the same today if it is tolerated in the church.

God does not coerce or force His children. He works in them to will and to do. They are free moral agents... they must choose to obey or disobey... He does not condone sins... God reserves to sole prerogative to bless or punish accordingly. God positively commands them to do good; and He threatens against sins. God promises to bless obedience, and to punish sins. God persuades and motivates his children to obey His commandments... all of which make sins against God to be very grievous and heinous.

I hope these few thoughts are helpful. Chew off the meat that you can and leave the bones to the dogs. I had better stop before it gets too long.

Please feel free to ask further if I have missed any issue raised in your mail.

Dear Hawke,

Having written more generally in the previous mail, I will now give brief comments to your specific questions and 'statements' in your post below.

He referred to 1 Cor 10: 1ff and making a point that all passed under the same cloud like Moses and through the sea... baptized into Moses... ate the same spritiual food. However, to most of them God is not pleased for the bodies are scattered in the wilderness.., the speaker illustrated this point to contend that those who fell to the wilderness were allowed to sin as yet will be saved even though their bodies were scattered to wilderness.

## The people spoken of in that whole passage is about 'all our fathers' to the Gentile believers in Corinth. They were spiritual Jews - those who were made partakers of Christ WITHOUT ANY CONDITION, they were blessed with eternal salvation by God's free grace WITHOUT ANY CONDITION. Many of those spiritual Jews did ACTUALLY sin against God in various and grievous ways... stated in verses 6-10.
"6 ¶ Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. [They rose up to play, they didn't rise to worship... they rose up to orgy and revelry. This is happening in so many churches... they PLAY... not worship.]
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

These are facts and evidence, no matter how we dislike to read them, no matter how disagreeable and contrary to our pet notions. SOME [not all] OF THEM ('all our fathers') - our spiritual fathers, did actually commit those grievous sins. These are facts and evidence, and they DO crush the silly LIE and FABLE that all God's children persevere in faith and holy living - a favourite fiction perpetrated by the 'reformed' folks.

Someone once stated, "Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclination, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence."

The other facts and evidence are also clearly stated: ALL SUCH 'were overthrown in the wilderness,' they 'were destroyed of serpents,' and 'were destroyed of the destroyer.'

Based on these facts and evidence, Apostle Paul warns all Christians in every generation not to go down the same road.

... that those who fell to the wilderness were allowed to sin as yet will be saved even though their bodies were scattered to wilderness.

## God warned His children against the severe consequences of sinning. God deal with His children as free moral agents, and not as robots. God does not coerce His children from sinning. Neither does He force them to obey. Obedience has to be voluntary, a moral choice. And it is the responsibility of His children.

Is God an Author for sin, then?
## God can't possibly be the author of sin. His holiness recoils against sins, His commandments THUNDER against sins, and His hot displeasure is pour forth against the sins of His very own children to the extent of terminating their lives prematurely. God is certainly no author, nor condoner of sin, but the HATER and PUNISHER of sin. From the very beginning God has declared plainly that the wages of sin is death... physical death, spiritual death and eternal death. God is the sole AUTHOR AGAINST sin.

1 Cor 10: 8,9 spoke on the sexual immorality and the action Phinehas has taken to kill that blatant of sexual immorality man and this man will be counted amongst the saints in heaven?

## There is no indication one way or another whether that particular man was among 'all our fathers.' It goes against our natural idea and understanding that such a man should be counted amongst the saints in heaven. I do sympathize with such revulsion.

Still, the plain fact is, Apostle Paul did say that some among 'all our fathers' DID commit fornication. The blatant sexual immorality of that man, though very grievous, is certainly no more grievous than the fornication committed by the others among our fathers. This man certainly DID DIE the most horrible and disgraceful and humiliating death for his blatant sin. So let each child of God be warned... sin has its temporal penalty in this life. By the grace and mercy of God, the penalty of eternal death for sins has been fully, completely and wholly settled by Christ Jesus.

God forbids that the man under the cloud and passing through the sea shall be allowed to commit such blantant sin - where is the justice? where is honour for God?

## God gives eternal salvation to each of His elect at His own appointed and approved time. And He gives this eternal salvation by His free and sovereign grace... we need to grow to understand the full implication of the last statement.

God gives clear commands to His children... stating the blessings of obedience and the curses for sins. He gives all sorts of motivation and encouragement to obedience. He gives all sorts of threats and deterrent against sins.

A child of God who freely choose to obey and do His Father's will shall be blessed. A child of God who choose to disobey and sins shall also be cursed - suffer temporal judgments in this life.

Grievous sins among His children, our fathers, DID OCCUR - "Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclination, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." God most certainly DID NOT condone it nor approved it, though He 'allowed' such to take place. If He hadn't 'allowed,' none would have taken place.

God is just... as always, in all circumstances. God maintains His honor... as always, in all circumstances. He expects His children to live godly. He is just. He punishes His children who flirt and mess around with sins. His is still just.

But He saves His own elect by His grace and mercy... and this ALSO justly and honorably through His Son Jesus Christ. There isn't the slightest injustice, or dishonor in His doing so.

Please correct me if I am wrong because these actions go against the holiness of God.. I know we have no part in our salvation but does the security of being elected gives a licence to commit even the deadliest of all sins. David and his sins, I accepted that he is in heaven because he repented. What about the 23k who falled to the wilderness, any repentance?

## Those acts of sins certainly do go against the holiness of God. Just because those acts of sin are obnoxious and abominable and heinous in the sight of God DOES NOT mean that God's children are NOT capable of committing them. It is precisely that God's children still have the inclination to commit such DEADLY sins, that Apostle Paul needed to deal with such matter and sternly warned the SAINTS in Corinth!!!

The security of being God's children DOES NOT give anyone license to commit even the least DEADLY of all sins - for example, a white lie, or murmuring. It is ONE thing to admit the fact that God's children DO SIN, and sometimes SIN in the most grievous manner... like committing the 'deadliest' of all sins. That is 1000 worlds of difference from saying that God's children, being eternally secure, have license to sin the deadliest of all sins; it is a 1000 worlds of difference from condoning any sin. I hope you see the great gulf between the two.

David repented... because God gives him room to repentance. He and Bathsheba could have been pierced through with a javelin too. His sin was no less grievous in the sight of God. The 23k in Num 25 were overthrown with no more room for repentance. Many of 'our fathers' were among them that committed WHOREDOM (Num 25:1) - God destroyed them.

2Ti 2:25 "In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth."

God's children do oppose the truth, and do themselves great harm. To admit so IS NOT the same as to condone such grievous sin and folly. That is why Pastor Timothy is instructed to work patiently and meekly to restore such.

Repentance is a work of God's grace... even for God's children, should they despise God's word, a time would come when there would be no repentance left... God give them up to suffer destruction in this life.

I hope these few thoughts help you to grasp the truth.
May our Lord bless you richly.

Dear Brother Hawke,

Keep talking... and thing will become clearer. "Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name." Mal 3:16.

My comments marked ## within your post below.

I knew that is the understanding as its seems logical or as "all" as in the exodus period having taken the bread and drank from the rock. The bitter pill to swallow is blatant sins are allowed to be punished only in this life time and two things conjures in my mind right now:

## Verses 3 and 4 read thus:
"3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ."

Apostle Paul was not referring to natural manna from heaven or the natural water that came out of the rock. Of these, absolutely ALL those who came out of Egypt DID eat and drink. But of the spiritual meat and spiritual drink, the spiritual fathers alone were partakers, and each and everyone of them.

Every sin has both the eternal consequences and temporal consequences. Christ's work of redemption took away and dealt with the eternal consequences of all the sins of all His people once for all. If this were not so, there would be no salvation for any. If this were not so, even the 'lightest' of sin will damn a man to eternal misery - that's a more sour pill to chew! Each sin, whether most blatant or the least blatant, deserves death in all its fulness. Adam eating the forbidden fruit most certainly looked like a light sin... yet because of that sin the whole human race was cursed and condemned.

a. Wow, the heart of God is sooooo biggggg and the extent of His love so wide that I am thoroughly forgiven even I grieve the Spirit.

## God forgives you when you were in even WORST state than grieving His Spirit. We were enemies. "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life." Romans 5:10. We were children of wrath. "Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others." Eph 2:3.

God loves us and forgives us, and gives us eternal salvation when we were in a far WORST state. When you grieve the Spirit of God, you shall suffer the chastisement and the scourging of your FATHER in this life. He may even terminate your life here on earth... or leave you to wallow in your sin and suffer the just bitterness and piercing of soul.

b. Let say.. now knowing I would not be thrown into the pit of fire, I will go on displeasing God and the possible consequence is shortened and trouble- filled life. So what! I can be "pai kah chai" cantonese for useless and careless son and will be a prince or a friend in heaven. Can you imagine, the Spirit of life who can seared my conscience but cannot effect change because I will to disobey!

## Apostle Paul dealt with that classic problem before - Romans 6. True and plain teaching on eternal salvation by God's free grace will ALWAYS draw forth such objection. When there is no such objection, it is an indication that the truth of eternal salvation by God's free grace has not be faithfully taught.

6:1 ¶ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer
therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Such thinking or mentality betrays the spiritual state of the person. To acknowledge that a child of God do FALL into grievous sin, and a person consciously CHOOSE a life of sin based on presumption do indicate two very different spiritual states.

It is ONLY a swine who says, "I will go back to wallow in the muck since the master will always wash me clean again. "

As I always understood the word "fathers" was used loosely to mean those of that generation and I understood not all were physically condemned to early death. These will part of the God's elect. I also cannot stomach the blatant actions of the man killed by Phinehas. What! in heaven with him. Emotions....as my sins though is not that drastic is still a sin and abominable to God. Let me have time to think of this truth.. I may have to reject this notion that everyone of the "fathers" are in heaven today.. May God help me.

## Just remember that these are said of 'all our fathers' -
"3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ." If that were not so, they COULD NEVER be said to be the spiritual fathers of the Gentile believers in Corinth.

At least you only cannot stomach SUCH BIG HEINOUS, ABOMINABLE blatant sin. The Pharisees cannot stomach much 'smaller' and 'minor' and far less 'blatant' sin - like eating with sinners. You have a much larger stomach than theirs.

I thank God that He has a VERY BIG STOMACH... O bless the Lord for the bigness of His BIG stomach... big enough to stomach the horrible sins of His children. God could stomach incest of Lot... to observe this is not the same as condoning incest... it is just to note that God has very ENORMOUS stomach. God could stomach idolatry of the wisest man Solomon... to observe this is not the same as condoning idolatry... it is just to note that God has HUMONGOUS stomach. Was the adultery and murder committed by David any less heinous or blatant? Our God stomach them all too... O the grace and mercy of God.

If this glorious truth motivate or excuse some to give God more of their muck... they may prove themselves to be nothing more than SWINES.

May the Lord bless you and help you to see His BIG STOMACH - is my humble prayers.

Dear Pastor,

As I grasped the writings, IT IS A MENTAL & SPIRITUAL REVOLUTION. My mind wants punishment of sins as seen by my eyes. My whole being wants to see the wickedness in the unconverted and the regenerated punished. But His way is higher than mine. Very much I am not against the whole concept of His unconditional election, to see the natural law of man not used against the rebellion. The rebellion though punished cannot compared the with the heaven that is to come. My another fear to see certain people who are outright Godless till the end and yet to be found in heaven.

Could these people secretly partaking the goodness of the spiritual food?

Dumb fears just like question asked by those in kiddies.

Dear Brother Hawke,

There are so much sins that are not visible to our eyes... but God sees them all. There are punishment that are visible, and there are also punishments that are not visible. These are far worse than those that are visible. I believe a defiled conscience that tortures a disobedient and unrepentant child of God day and night is much worse than being sent to the gallows.

Godly souls are always grieved by the sins found in themselves, as well as among God's people. "Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law" Ps 119:136. "My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy words" Ps 119:139. "I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word" Ps 119:158. The psalmist is not speaking of the open pagan unbelievers... but of them who were given, and knew the law of God, and were commanded to keep God's law and His word.

If one ever get into heaven, he gets there SOLELY and WHOLLY on the finished work of Christ ALONE, and nothing else... not whether how little he has sinned or whether he has been punished sufficiently for all his sins. Christ ALONE has suffered for the eternal consequences of all the sins of His people.

By strict justice, one sin alone is enough to damn a man to eternal misery and torment. "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" Jas 2:10.

Those who are outrightly godless till the end have no ground to hope for eternal glory in heaven... they would go through life with misery and torment within... though they may appear respectable to human eyes. Such will be like prodigals sons... living among swine and sharing its food. [Lot did appear outrightly godless, wallowing in the degraded society of Sodom... had to be dragged out of Sodom... yet it is revealed to us that he is righteous. How very unreliable is our feeble judgment!]

Such must be warned against. Such must be given no place in the visible church, and treated as a heathen. Even if such do end up in heaven, it should really humble us... it only magnifies the infinite mercy and grace of God. God has much bigger stomach than us! Let us celebrate and rejoice in the greatness of God's grace and mercy in dealing with sinners.

In one of the parable Jesus said, "Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?" Good reminder. Salvation is the Lord's own; heaven and eternal glory is the Lord's own too. For Him to give it to the MOST undeserving ONLY magnifies His grace and mercy and goodness.

May our Lord give us grace to "live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" Titus 2:12-13.

May our Lord bless you richly.

Dear Pastor,

Unless God opens the eyes in the spiritual sense, the centuries of blindness to the divine truth perpetuated would ever be continuing.

Unless and until our souls want to surrender to the divine truth espoused in the Bible without exception, we will be lost in the midst of truths and half truths. No wonder the opposition to these divine truths are like Pharoahs of the world, fighting against the truths of God.

We know the discussions we have had is the thorough truth of God hidden from us these decades. What had been dispensed were half truths but nevertheless, God has wrought to pass our understanding of Him as the God of creation. Yes, my soul like the psalmist would like to shout with joy.

If these truths have been dispensed to us in doses like doses of milk to the infants in the beginning of our journey from regeneration till now, we would not have colic, constipation and diarrhea.

However, we praise our God for these truths found in the bible. Man has "bastardised" and dispensed doses of toxin poisoning our mind, thoughts and understanding
and therefore resulting in poorness in christian character and never understanding the depth of God's love. Brother! we thank God for these uncovering of the century and time eternal old truths.

Alas, our duty is to put across these truths to the proper pedestal high above all for all to see and believe. Maybe the centuries of lies may not be washed away overnight or even in our life time but surely if God so will & purpose the real work of reformation will begin in Malaysia.

This day forth, Queen & I have begun to see God and Christ in the true & proper light. You may want to share our thoughts with the brethren.

I reply to your mail above. I do rejoice with you in praising and thanking God for His continuing mercies toward us in our journey together to study and to learn the truth He has revealed to us.

May our Lord enable us not only to learn and know the truth, but also to hold fast to the truth, and to hold forth the truth unto others in all humility and charity and patience.

What thinkest thou of thy father Abraham?

What thinkest thou of thy father Abraham?

Was Abraham a justified man before Gen 15:1-6?
Was he still an unjustified, condemned, and ungodly man before Gen 15:1-6?

Very many - both from the reformed camp and the non-reformed camp - insist that Abraham remained an unjustified (and if unjustified, necessarily still under the just condemnation) and an ungodly man until Gen 15:1-6.
(Sin brings condemnation and death. Righteousness secures justification and life. Justification necessitates the imputation of Christ's righteousness.

Some while ago, I ask some RBs on various continents of this small world a simple question about two passages of the Holy Scriptures in light of the 1689 CoF... but no one is willing to reply yet. Read it and pass it on to your RB friends and their pastors and teachers.

Let us look at two passages of Scriptures, and a paragraph from an ancient Confession of Faith of the Old School Baptists (in distinction from the New School Baptists who claim themselves 'reformed', but have departed from what the Old School Baptists have believed!)

1. Genesis 15:1-6 read thus:

1 ¶ After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2 ¶ And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in the LORD; and he [the LORD] counted it [Abraham's act of believing] to him [Abraham] for righteousness.

A question:
Did God speak to Abram as an ungodly condemned man, or did God speak to Abram whom He has justified by His free grace before He called him out of the Ur of the Chaldeans?

Some observation:
This passage speaks of the LORD imputing/accounting Abraham's faith to Abraham. This passage speaks of the IMPUTATION OF FAITH, man's act of believing. This passage speaks NOT - NOT - NOT of the imputation of Christ’s righteousness to Abraham for his justification. It speaks of God accounting Abraham's faith unto Abraham for righteousness.

These are quite obvious. But would you admit their truthfulness?

2. Romans 4:3-5 read thus:

3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith [act of believing] is counted for righteousness.

Some questions: God justifies the ungodly. Was Abraham in Gen 15 still an ungodly man?
- When did God justify ungodly Abraham - while he was still an ungodly man in the Ur of the Chaldeans or here in Gen 15? Is God's act of justifying the ungodly prior to the believing act of unjustified or does it follow after the believing act of?
- If it follows after the act of believing, then it must be concluded that an ungodly man in an unjustified condemned state has the ability to believe?
- (An unjustified man is still in his native state of condemnation and death.)

Some observation: This passage speaks of the LORD - who justifies the ungodly - imputing/accounting the believer's faith to the believer. This passage speaks NOT - NOT - NOT of God imputing Christ's righteousness to an ungodly man.
- This passage speaks of the IMPUTATION OF FAITH, the act of believing of a believer, to the believer. This passage DOES NOT speak of God imputing the righteousness of Christ to an ungodly man. There is a vast distinction between God imputing Christ's righteousness to an ungodly condemned sinner for his justification, and Him imputing the believing act of a godly justified believer to him for him to experience the blessedness of his justified state.

God imputing the righteousness of Christ to a condemned unjustifed man, and God imputing the faith of a believer to him are two very different matters.

Distinction is the essence of sound theology. But so many reformed folks fail to make the simple and obvious distinction between the two. They glibly equate the two, and end up with a massive contradiction, necessarily concluding that Abraham was still a condemned unjustified man before God in Gen 12-14, and was only justified by God in Gen 15:1-6. Father Abraham should whack them properly for such impudence!

These are quite obvious. But would you admit their truthfulness?

3. 1689 Chapter 11.1 on Justification reads thus:

Those whom God effectually calleth, He also freely justifieth,(1) not by infusing righteousness into them, but by pardoning their sins, and by accounting and accepting their persons as righteous;(2) not for anything wrought in them, or done by them, but for Christ's sake alone;(3) NOT BY imputing faith itself, the act of believing, or any other evangelical obedience to them, as their righteousness; but by imputing Christ's active obedience unto the whole law, and passive obedience in His death for their whole and sole righteousness,(4) they receiving and resting on Him and His righteousness by faith, which faith they have not of themselves; it is the gift of God.(5)

The Framers emphatically and specifically state that the Justification at effectual calling DOES NOT INVOLVE the imputation of faith, the act of believing. They anticipated the carelessness and the foolishness of many woolly minded New School Baptists (the 'reformed' folks) who would pervert the truth of justification by grace.

THE IMPUTATION OF A BELIEVER'S BELIEVING ACT to the believer is very remotely related to the justification of the ungodly by God through "imputing Christ's active obedience unto the whole law, and passive obedience in His death for their whole and sole righteousness."

THE IMPUTATION OF CHRIST'S RIGHTEOUSNESS to a condemned guilty ungodly man - by virtue of Christ's active and passive obedience - IS THE JUSTIFICATION of the ungodly by God.

The essence of Justification is declaring a guilty condemned criminal not guilty but righteous through the imputation of the righteousness of Jesus Christ to him.

4. Concluding remarks:

Genesis 15 and Romans 4 passages speak of the imputation of the believer's act of believing to the believer. They say nothing of the imputation of Christ's righteousness to the ungodly.

My question:
Why do the Reformed folks (and the Arminian as well!) ALWAYS read those two passages as speaking of the justification of the guilty condemned ungodly sinner before God?

If Gen 15 is speaking of Abraham's justification before God, then Abraham would necessarily be still a UN-justified UNGODLY man in Gen 12-14. But was Abraham still an unjustified ungodly man in Gen 12-14? Was he still a man under the condemnation of death?

Is Gen 15 speaking of God justifying a condemned ungodly man by imputing the righteousness of Christ?

Or is Gen 15 speaking of how a man by faith experiences the blessedness of his PRIOR justified state by God's free and sovereign grace?

God justifies the UNGODLY. How does God justify the UNGODLY?
Faith justifies the BELIEVER. How does faith justify the BELIEVER?

Tell me what your consider judgment.
Just no reformed shibboleth please!

Buddha Prophesied of Christ?

There is an article circulating in the cyberspace making an extraordinary claim – that in the 5th century BC Buddha prophesized the coming of Jesus Christ, and that this prophesy can be found in the Buddhist scriptures, the Tipitaka. Check here for the said article: Buddha prophesied Jesus

I received the same article on several occasions from different sources at different times over the last few years. Some believe that the article is a fraud perpetrated by some Christians. The intent was probably to convert Buddhists into believing Jesus Christ - based on the claim that Buddha himself prophesized the coming of Jesus Christ. Many Christians have been circulating the article and gave credibility to the claim. However, the Buddhist scholars have rejected the authenticity of the claim.

In the article, it is claimed that Buddha made this statement, "Keep on making merit and look for another Holy One who will come and help the world and all of you in the future." And many Christians have blindly accepted the claim made by the article, and are in fact rejoicing that even Buddha has prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ.

This trend is very disturbing, and reminds us of the warning of Apostle Paul, the last apostle of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul warned Timothy: "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils..." (1Tim 4:1). "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables" (2Tim 3).

The gospel truth is repulsive and foolishness to natural men. And even spiritual men are not inclined to the truth of God. They prefer fables, warned apostle Paul.

Let us suppose that the enlightened Buddha did make the statement. Then Buddha's one statement alone CONTRADICTS Christ and His word on no less than FOUR counts.

But if it is a fraud perpetrated by some Christians, it shows that they are very ignorant and confused themselves. They are not only guilty of bearing false witness by putting words into Buddha's mouth, they are also guilty of misrepresenting the gospel truth. They have zeal without knowledge, attributing such grievous errors as truths prophesied by Buddha!

Let us consider the statement attributed to Buddha:
"Keep on making merit and look for another Holy One who will come and help the world and all of you in the future."

This statement contains no less than four contradiction against biblical truth.

1. Making Merit???
Making merit presupposes works or obedience to the law in order to obtain salvation. The whole concept of making merit is antithetical to the gospel of pure and free grace in Jesus Christ. It is openly and plainly condemned in the Scriptures.

ALL man-made religions are about MERIT by men's futile efforts. Christianity is about God's free grace through the MERIT of Jesus Christ ALONE. It is by the righteousness and obedience of ONE... ONE... ONE...

Romans 3:20 "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."

Romans 5:18 "Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous."

Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."

Ga 3:10 "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them."

Isa 64:6 "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

Christ speaks of free grace through His obedience and righteousness. But Buddha exhorted all men to make merit through their own works.

If there is a place for merit making, then why is there ANYMORE need of another holy one as a Redeemer? The so-called 'another holy one' prophesied would then be redundant! The statement is self contradictory!

Either Buddha contradicted himself, or hoaxers themselves were so confused and deluded, and were ignorant of the gospel.

2. Another Holy One???
'Another' means 'one more of the same kind.' It presupposes an initial one - whether existed in the past or presently existing. Did Buddha claim himself as the existing holy one, and Christ as another holy one like himself? A mere man who is deluded enough to claim himself to be the first holy one is really a USURPER!

Buddha's 'another holy one' can only be another of Buddha's kind... it can only be another buddha, it can't be anything else. It is FOOLISH to make it to refer to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is of an entirely DIFFERENT category from Buddha - Jesus being the ONLY begotten Son of God. Scriptures alone and its testimony is all sufficient and the only reliable revelation concerning Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

The Only begotten Son of God alone is the Holy One. There is not another. "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God." Lu 1:35.

3. "Help the World"???
What sayest the Holy Scriptures?
Jesus came to save HIS PEOPLE; He came not to help the world. HIS PEOPLE are those whom the Father HAS GIVEN to Him from before the foundation of the world.

Matt 1: 21 "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save HIS PEOPLE from their sins."

John 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 ¶ And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

4. 'All of you..."???
Just who did Buddha have in mind by the term 'all of you'? Did he speak of the elect of God?
Jesus came to save HIS PEOPLE, those whom the Father chose and gave to Him, and sent Him to save. Isn't Christ's word's clear enough? Is it because many Christian don't understand those plain words, or is it because they reject the plain words of Jesus?

Jesus came not to do Buddha's or any preacher's will, but His Father's will. Jesus knew full well His Father's will for Him. So many of His followers rejected that will of the Father for Christ. They insist that Jesus came to save all, even those that eventually end up in hell! A Jesus that came to save all but couldn't save all is a pathetic and weak Jesus! That's is another Jesus, not the jesus of the Bible!

John 6:
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

These Scriptures are PLAIN ENOUGH. Let God be true and every man a liar.
"God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged." Ro 3:4

The Buddhist scholars have rejected the authenticity of the claim. The claim is likely a fraud and a hoax initiated by some deceitful and misguided Christians. It is a terrible shame that some culprit would resort to such subtleties and lies. They betray their ignorance and blind zeal. They make themselves odious to the Buddhists, and all fair minded men.

They bring reproach to Christ.
