Ecclesiastes
5
1
¶Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear,
than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
2
Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing
before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words
be few.
The
above Scriptures give a solemn warning: that people may go to the house of God
with the great intention of worshipping Him BUT actually end up offering the
sacrifice of fools. But fools are those who say that there is no God. Why would
such go to the house of God?
Psalm
14:1 KJV — To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his
heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works,
there is none that doeth good.
Those
spoken of in Ecc 5:1 are no fools; they believe in God and even go to the house
of God to worship Him. In that sense, they are no fools.
However,
they do behave like fools when they have come to the house of God; they behave
as though God has not given specific instructions on acceptable worship; in
this sense they deny God, thus acting foolishly. They do what seems right in
their own eyes; they are just like Cain. And God rejects such acts of worship
as the sacrifice of fools.
Gen
4 - KJV
3
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the
ground an offering unto the LORD.
4
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat
thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth,
and his countenance fell.
6
¶And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance
fallen?
7
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin
lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over
him.
Ecc
5:1 exhorts, "... be more ready to hear..." Hear what? Choir? Band
music? A show? Some sermonettes?
If
they are to be more ready to hear, then someone must be more ready to say
things that need to be heard by them.
2Tim
4 - KJV
1
¶I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge
the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort
with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after
their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto
fables.
5
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist,
make full proof of thy ministry.
May the Lord grant you understanding. Amen.
