Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Are there no foes for me to face?

Are there no foes for me to face?

Are there no foes for me to face?

We sang this great hymn in our meeting yesterday. The line "Are there no foes for me to face?" struck me and got me musing.

The church of Jesus Christ has many foes, both within and without; those within are most hateful and vindictive, as the implacable Jews against Christ and His Apostles.

Each soldier of Christ has many foes, also both within and without the camp.

Do I have spiritual eyes to see my subtle foes;
And a sound mind to recognize their errors?
Can I spot ravening wolves in sheep's clothes;
And a bold spirit to face and expose the foes?

Beware of being seduced and neutralized by the enemies of the gospel. Beware of being tempted to accommodate things contrary to the word of God. You are not given such freedom nor liberty by your Captain.

If we are soldiers, we are to earnestly contend for the faith once delivered unto the saints. Saints need to face and fight whatever usurps and undermines the faith once delivered. Amen.

 #############

Am I a soldier of the cross,
A follower of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His name?
Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?
Sure I must fight if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord.
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
By faith’s discerning eye.
When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all Thy armies shine
In robes of victory through the skies,
The glory shall be Thine.
