The Calvinists and their cousins Arminians on Regeneration
They
insist vehemently that it is the Holy Spirit who regenerates sinners dead in
trespasses and sins. BUT they ALSO insist that the Holy Spirit regenerates ONLY
when there is preaching of the gospel; i.e. no preaching, no regeneration. So,
the preaching of the gospel is the instrumental means for the Holy Spirit to
regenerate the spiritually dead who hear the gospel.
And
being aware that this notion has perverse implications (and the Calvinists are
no idiots) - i.e. all their babies incapable of hearing that they sprinkled,
and all those vast multitudes that have no opportunity to hear the gospel
- there is NO elect among them. Therefore they come up with the idea of the
'exception' and the 'norm' in regeneration. The norm way is regeneration by the
Spirit with gospel means; the exceptional way is without the gospel means.
Such
fiction plainly contradicts the teaching of Christ. 'The wind bloweth where it
listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it
cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.'
Note
the declaration, 'so is every one that is born of the Spirit.' Every one that
is born of the Spirit is born by the free and sovereign activity of the Holy
Spirit, without the aid of man, direct and immediate, without the means of
gospel preaching.
Of
course, these Calvinists, as well as their Arminians cousins whom they
despised, are all confused about the purpose of the gospel ministry at a MOST
BASIC LEVEL. They are confused about the function and purpose of the gospel
ministry.
Jesus
commanded the Apostles, "FEED FEED FEED my sheep... lambs... sheep.' It is
plain and obvious the command to feed presupposes the EXISTENCE of them that
needed to be fed!
However,
the self-conceited Calvinists think the Lord Jesus Christ commanded them to
MAKE sheep and lambs!
Jesus
commanded the Apostles, "Go ye therefore, and TEACH TEACH TEACH..."
The command presupposes that there are God's children out there, by God's own
divine work of regeneration, that needed to be taught the gospel truth
concerning their salvation by God's free and sovereign grace.
However,
the self-conceited Calvinists think the Lord Jesus Christ commanded them to go
and teach the DEAD in trespasses and sins so that the DEAD might be made alive
by the Holy Spirit through their activity of teaching!
That
much for the 'superiority' of the Calvinists' logic and reason!!!

You
are describing John MacArthur who leads everyone to believe he is a 5-point
Calvinist and yet you have nailed his theology to the wall. Regeneration is a
work of grace separate from a subsequent conversion and Calvinists want to make
regeneration concurrent with conversion so that there is no chronological
difference between the grace of regeneration and the faith of conversion.

Nearly
ALL the 'calvinists' and 'reformed' people I have come across will vehemently
defend that notion.
And
you may wonder why. Well, the chief reason is this: their PRIESTCRAFT role as
mediator of regeneration is made redundant. And that's why they will guard that
status quo tenaciously.
RC
has her priestcraft. Her daughters, the protestants reformers have it too!!
