Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

There are sheep and goats in the one flock

Both the sheep and the goats belong to the same flock;
otherwise, they need no separating;
the whole flock of sheep and goats
belongs to the one same Shepherd.
The sheep and goats represent
the obedient and the disobedient;
the goats DO NOT represent the non-elect
 as many woolly folks imagine.

Mt 25
v1-13: the bridegroom's virgins, some wise, others foolish.
v14-30: the master's servants, some faithful, others aren't
v31-46: the shepherd's one flock, some sheep, others goats.

In all three, there is a common theme.

----------

Adam Wells
It all ends with these words "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal."

Sing F Lau
Unto the foolish virgins:
"Verily I say unto you, I know you not."

Unto the unfaithful servant:
"Thou wicked and slothful servant... And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Unto the goats:
"Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels."

Yes, all speaking on the same theme.

Adam Wells
If we take everlasting as continuing until its appointed end, wouldn't that mean we should take life eternal in the same way? It is the same word in Greek only translated differently in KJV.

Sing F Lau
The term "life eternal" is used a total of 4 times in the KJ.

Mt 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Joh 4:36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

Joh 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Looks like much WORK is involved in attaining that!!! Don't you think?

How do you read the above?

Sing F Lau
It is specifically stated that both the virgins and the servants are about the kingdom of heaven...

25:1 ¶ Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins...
25: 14 ¶ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants.

Both are intended to tell us some truth and reality about these people in the kingdom of heaven.

I do believe the SAME applies to the one on sheep and goats! The foolish virgins and the unfaithful servants are the Lord's goats!
