Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

The pain of stupidity

Stupid - lacking common sense

#The_Pain_of_Stupidity

When I'm stupid, the pain - embarrassment, distress, unease, reproach, shame - is felt by those who care, i.e. my spouse, children, and maybe a few others.

When a preacher is stupid, does anyone in his congregation notice or care about it? Or no one is sound enough to reason with him, to save him from the error of his way? (James 5:19-20). Few actually care about the truth of God or the gospel of Christ; they already have too many cares of this world on their mind.

EVEN Apollos - an eloquent man, mighty in the scriptures, instructed in the way of the Lord, fervent in the spirit, was speaking and teaching diligently the things of the Lord - have need to be shown the way of God more accurately.

Acts 18 KJV

24 ¶And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

How many church members today read and know their Bible enough to notice the stupid things preached by their pastors? Few care about the way of God; they are zealous about the opinions of men, about their allegiance to their denominations and church groupings.

Ephesians 4:30 KJV — And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV — Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Have you met a workman of God who is ashamed because he has been shown to have wrongly divided the truth? Have you heard of a pastor confessing to his church that he had taught them errors and that the Lord has shown him to rightly divide the truth on that subject? Have you?

I have done that not a few times to the church I have been pastoring for a quarter-century.

Bless the Lord for His tender mercies.
