Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

O Lord, save us from damning pretense.

O Lord, save us from damning pretense.

John 6
28 ¶Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 ¶Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 ¶They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

Look at their impressive inquiry! It shows their earnestness and zeal in desiring to do the works of God, i.e. they want to know the works (plural) that God will have them do. How impressive.

The wise and all-knowing Lord entertained their serious inquiry; He directed them to the chief and foremost work of God that they need to do. First thing, first; don't be concerned with the multitudes of works; pay attention to this one work and do it. The rest will take care of themselves in due course.

This is the work God requires you to do - "believe on him whom he hath sent." Their broad question was given a specific and particular answer, one which is plain and direct. Who can fail to understand the reply?

It becomes clear that these seemingly sincere seeking inquirers have no interest in the specific reply to their question at all. They have no interest in submitting to the truth. When they are shown the truth, they employ diversion tactics to hide their wicked unbelief.

Such wickedness is prevalent among God's children. They parade themselves as sincere inquirers but have no desire to learn and embrace the truth. They cherish their traditions and fables passed down to them.

Be careful, be very careful. The Lord has these solemn words for such.

Matthew 13:12 KJV — For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

Don't play the fool with God's word. The consequences are dire. It is a fearful thing to be blinded and given up by the Lord.
