Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Are you opposing yourself?

What are you doing to yourself?

You may say, "hey, are you really that stupid?"
[stupid - showing a great lack of common sense. OED]

But there are many such among the children of God. They oppose themselves by not believing/acknowledging/obeying the truth of their salvation; instead, they insist on fables and fall into the snare of the devil. "O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth..."

2Tim 2
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

O the tender mercies of God our Father; He commands His servants to instruct those who oppose themselves, who the truth of their salvation, to instruct them the truth, if God perhaps will give them repentance to the confession of the truth.

Stop cutting off branches from the gospel tree, doing so is injurious to yourself. Stop saying God offered you salvation; He summoned you to life, He saved you when you were dead in trespasses and sins, just like Jesus summoned dead Lazarus from the tomb. Instead, acknowledge the truth and recover yourself from the snare of the devil; he is the father of lies.
