Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Your ministry - does it save both yourself and them them that hear you?

#Salvation_or_Destruction
#Ministry_of_the_word

Does it really matter what kind of ministry of the word you sit under? Does it matter whether you are taught sound doctrines and are doctrinally established (stable)? There are too many sincere Christians who loathe, yes, they loathe, doctrines.

Ponder on these passages, if what the Bible says still matters to you. Do you know how to draw out the necessary implications and practical lessons from these passages of God's word?

Apostle Paul's solemn words to young Pastor Timothy:

"Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee." 1 Timothy 4:16 KJT

And again,

"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." 2 Timothy 4:2 KJT.

Here is Apostle Peter's solemn word concerning Christians who are neither soundly taught nor grounded:

"As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction." 2 Peter 3:16 KJT

And this is how the Apostle Paul graphically describes unlearned believers: unstable kids easily carried away by falsehood.

"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive." Ephesians 4:14 KJT

Why did the Lord Jesus Christ give teaching offices to His church? Let's hear from Apostle Paul:

11 ¶And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ." Ephesians 4:11-13 KJV

(Of the four distinct NT teaching offices, the first three offices were unique to the apostolic church; only the fourth is normative to the gospel age.)

Does it matter what kind of preaching ministry you attend? Too many can't even distinguish truth from falsehood, and they just don't care.

For example, what does your preacher teach about how God justifies a condemned sinner? And the doctrine of justification by faith alone is declared as THE article that determines the standing or falling of the church!

O Lord, have mercy!

It does make a big difference. True preaching brings life and immortality to light and gives God due honour for eternal salvation. Which also saves us from this untoward generation of false teachings and brings us to a fellowship with our Saviour that only the truth can bring, which is freedom in Christ.

Sonny, what's true preaching? How can one in the pew know? Thanks.

Sing: Scriptural preaching of the truth is foolishness to those who have not the spirit of Christ. They have no spiritual ears to hear nor eyes to see the truth. They cannot believe because they are spiritually discerned. In regeneration God puts his laws into their heart and because they are sons they cry Abba Father and when the truth of the gospel is preached unto them the spirit of God in them bears witness of the spirit that God gave them where they cry of a truth this is of the LORD.
