Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things" 2Ti 2:7.

The Day of Christ and the Day of the Lord

Sir, why is it "the day of Christ" here instead of "the day of the Lord"?

Ask, what is Paul talking about, and to whom?

The day of the Lord is a phrase often used by the prophets to refer to the coming of the Lord in judgement against the earthly theocratic kingdom of Israel in 70 AD. This is often addressed to the Jewish audience.

Whereas "the day of Christ" speaks of the second advent of Christ. And that's the context of the passage, 2Th 2:2.

Examples of the day of the Lord:
Amos 5:18 KJT — Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

Amos 5:20 KJT — Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

Zechariah 14:1 KJT — Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

Malachi 4:5 KJT — Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD."

2 Peter 3:10 KJT - But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Acts 2:20 KJT — The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

In both instances, Peter was warning the unbelieving Jews of the impending destruction in 70AD.

In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

1 Corinthians 1:8 KJT
Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6 KJT
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

Haha. And some Dispensationalists interpret it as the Rapture with Christ coming to take us up 🤭

Basically, they believe that the church and Israel are distinct

The dispensationalists' rapture is a fable.
The earthly theocratic Israel was immutably abolished by God in 70AD - just as prophesied by the prophets, and affirmed by Christ and His Apostles.
