Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Pastors and Teachers

Feed the flock of God which is among you,
taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint,
but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind.
1 Peter 5:2

#pastorandteacher

Ephesians 4:11 KJV — And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.

There are FOUR teaching offices here, each marked by the determiner "some" and separated by semicolons.

The four offices are:
- some, apostles;
- and some, prophets;
- and some, evangelists;
- and some, pastors and teachers;

These are the only four teaching offices that Christ, the Head of the church, gave to His church.

The first three were unique to the apostolic age and are no more.
The last office/ministry of "pastors and teachers" is the office normative for the whole gospel age. The qualifications for the office of pastor/teacher are given in the pastoral epistles to Timothy and Titus.

A pastor and teacher is given and called to pastor a New Testament church by teaching the church the word of God. He does the work of an evangelist, too.

 2Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."

 1Timothy 4:16 "Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

2 Timothy 4:5 KJT — But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
