Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

It is better to enter into life than to be cast into hell fire

Mark 9 KJT
35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them...
36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
42 ¶And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

"offend" - skandalizō, to entice to sin

Solemn warnings on the danger of being cast into hell addressed the His own twelve disciples personally... "... if thy hand... if thy foot... if thine eye..." - second person singular; addressed to each one of His disciples personally.

---------------

To very many, these solemn words of Christ Jesus to His own disciples would be nonsensical and irrelevant to the disciples. Why? They confidently insist that there is absolutely no possibility whatsoever of the disciples ending up in hell. Thus, the reality of hell with respect to the disciples is dismissed conveniently; Christ's solemn warnings are made null and void just like that!

Take heed if you think the Lord Jesus Christ would waste such solemn words of warning on His own disciples. The father of lies has deceived very many in this matter.

Whatever hell is meant in the solemn warnings, we do well to take the warning to heart. "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" - these words are addressed to God's people too. Hebrews 10:31.

Christ also warned His disciples:
Luke 12 - KJT
4 ¶And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Many are misguided in not a few things in this matter:
- Hell and the lake of fire are not synonymous, read Rev 20:13-14.
- Hell everlasts until the end of the intermediate state, i.e. between death and the resurrection to glory, when hell must give up / surrender all its captives to Him who holds the keys of hell and of death; hell would be empty; the relevance of hell ends at the end of time.
- Hell in the intermediate state can be avoided by Christ's disciples through drastic measures against personal offences.
- Lake of fire is the eternal state for those bypassed in the redemption by Christ,  whose names were not written in the Lamb's Book of Life, after the final judgment according to their works recorded in the Books.
- The "new heaven and a new earth" is the eternal state assured for the redeemed, those whose names were written in the Book of Life, after the resurrection to glory.

Rev 21:1 KJT
¶And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 Timothy 2:7 KJT
Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

(A question:
"...
to be cast into hell fire: 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched."

In the hell fire, their (plural) worm (singular) dies not, and the fire is not quenched.

- What is their worm that dies not in the hell fire?
- Who is meant by the pronoun "their"?
- Is there literal worm in the literal hell fire?
