Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Don't cling to an erroneous doctrine just because...

- your revered Reverends and denominational theologians teach it.

- you have held and cherished it for so long.

- you have vigorously defended it.

- you want to remain in the camp.

- it is a popular majority view.

- and on and on...

Does it conform to the Scriptures rightly divided is all that matters, otherwise "sola scriptura" is just a nice-sounding shibboleth to deceive yourself, and impress the simple and naive.

Christ has warned against such a common phenomenon.

Matthew 15:9 KJV — But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Christ's apostle Paul gave a similar warning:

Ephesians 4:14 KJV — That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.

Such warnings presuppose the reality of the peddlers of falsehood among the teachers and theologians.
