Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

It will be instructive and profitable to inquire, "why is the heavenly Father well pleased with His beloved Son?"

Please express your thoughts. Thank you.

"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..." because He is the eternal Word made flesh, the glory as the only begotten Son of God.

John 1:14
¶ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1. "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..." because He was divinely begotten by the power of the Highest; He is the divinely begotten Son of God.

Luke 1:35 ¶ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

2. "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..." because He identified Himself with those He came to save; He humbled himself and became partakers of flesh and blood, the Word was made flesh, to save those whom God the Father has given to Him.

Hebrews 2:
14 "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

3. "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..." because He is resolutely submitted to fulfil all righteousness; no one could dissuade Him.

Matthew 3:15 "And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him."

Matthew 4:10 "Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."

Matthew 16:23 "But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men."

4. "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..." because His very name Jesus means "Jehovah is salvation" - He shall save His people, those whom the Father had elected and given to Him, from their sins.

Matthew 1:21 "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."
