Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Reconciliations: eternal and temporal

Roderick Ramchand
October 3, 2019

2 Corinthians 5:18 KJV
"... And all things are of God, who HATH reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation."

If God HATH reconciled you to Himself (eternally) already by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, what else do we need to do to be reconciled (eternally)? Ans: NONE.

There's nothing left for us to do to be reconciled to God - Christ did it all.

We don't proclaim the Gospel to reconcile people again (in an eternal sense). We proclaim, by the Gospel, that they (the intended audience) have already been reconciled, and so beg them to be reconciled to God (in a temporal sense). That's what the  "ministry of reconciliation" is about - to temporally reconcile the eternally reconciled.. the purpose of the Gospel is to locate and educate the regenerates.

The author aptly expresses a gospel truth. I hope you appreciate the truth of reconciliations taught in the Bible. But not a few are so disagreeable to such an obvious truth stated.

I left this comment:

Roderick, you have rightly divided the truth and stated it precisely as well as concisely.

The first reconciliation is prior to and independent of the latter, as well as making the latter possible through the gospel ministry.

The former is completely by the free grace of God and is perfected once executed; the latter is a long process to bring a child of God to ALIGN with the truth and will of God.

Thank you.

p/s
'Temporal' is not to be understood as temporary;
- the latter means not permanent, lasting for a limited period of time,
- the former means related to the realm of time instead of the realm of eternity.

Temporal versus eternal, temporary versus permanent.
