“Therefore
let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus,
whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36).
This
was good news or bad news, depending on whether you believed Jesus was God’s
Son or not.
If
Jesus was now the Lord of Psalm 110:1, then His enemies were about to be ground
to powder.
If
Jesus was truly the Christ or Messiah of Isaiah, then His enemies were cut out
of His salvation.
But
to those that believed on Jesus, they had a Surety against sin and condemnation
and precious advice to avoid the coming desolation of Israel.
How
certain were the facts of Peter’s concluding sermon statement in Acts 2:36
above?
He
used “therefore” to draw a conclusion from all his arguments. He had proven the
points.
He
told all Jews that these facts were “assuredly” true. There was no doubt about
them.
The
Jesus they had crucified was now at God’s right hand.
The
Jesus they had crucified was about to make them His footstool.
The
Jesus they had crucified was about to destroy His enemies (3:23).
The
Jesus they had crucified was about to wreck that wicked generation (2:40).
But
to us that believe, Jesus is precious ... and risen ... and reigning ... and
returning!
The
Founder of our religion rose from the dead and will raise all His followers!
Glory!
The
founder of every other religion is buried and so are the bodies of all their
followers.
Jesus
is the Second Adam and undid all the dastardly and deadly work of the first
Adam.
Here
is a short outline to help you break Acts 2 into a few glorious sections.
The
highlighted sections are what we will cover tomorrow, the Lord willing.
A. The Gift of the Holy Ghost (1-21)
1. The Spirit of Pentecost (1-4)
2. The gift of tongues (4-13)
3. Prophecy fulfilled (14-21)
B. Peter’s Glorious Sermon (22-36)
1. Jesus is alive (22-24)
2. David prophesied it (25-32)
3. Jesus is king (33-36)
C. The Glorious Results (37-40)
1. A godly response (37-38)
2. Application to Gentiles (39)
3. Warning of judgment (40)
D. Character of the Jerusalem Church (41-47)
1. Apostolic fellowship (41-43)
2. Unity and joy and love (44-47)
3. Growth from God (47)
I
look forward to declaring our Lord’s mighty work to establish and empower His
church.
To
warn His followers with signs and wonders that He was about to destroy
Jerusalem ...
And that He rose from the dead by David’s prophecy to be a living and quickening Saviour!
Amen
and amen.
