Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Same old sins

#SameOldSins

Beware of the fierce anger of the LORD upon the same old sins.

1Cor 10
¶6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

- LUSTING after evil things.
- IDOLATRY: worshipping the LORD in ways He has not appointed.
- FORNICATION:
- TEMPTING Christ
- MURMURING

Verse 7 on idolatry is a reference to Exodus 32
5 ¶ And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.
6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

It was idolatry in the name of worshipping the LORD! Don't you find this same sin in churches today - they play, not worship, John 4:23.

Verse 8 on fornication is a reference to Numbers 25
1 ¶And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.
4 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.
5 ¶ And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

Note these things:
- the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel...
- the FIERCE anger of the LORD...
- take the heads of the people and hang them up against the sun...
- judges to slay everyone that were joined unto Baalpeor...
- twenty and three thousand perished in the hand of the LORD. A thousand more put to death by divine command, Num 25:9.
