Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Deuteronomy 31 - KJV

11 When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
12 Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
13 And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

Note the specific instructions:
- When all Israel appear before the LORD at the appointed by Him...
- READ this law before all Israel in their hearing...
- that they may HEAR...
- hearing that they may LEARN...
- learning that they may FEAR the LORD their God.
- These they are obligated to do as long as they as they live in the promised land.

Good-ground hearers are uncommon today.

"But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." Matthew 13:23 KJV

There are those who seem to be hearing and learning... BUT...indicted as  "ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

2 Tim 3:7 KJV
To fear the LORD our God is to obey what we have heard and learnt of His word.

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Proverbs 9:10 KJV

Some will murmur, "the LORD our God is too strict"; they can choose to ignore Him and bear the just consequences.

Ecclesiastes 5:1 KJV
Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
