Let
them be a warning unto you and me; the same tragedy repeats
1Chronicles
5
The
Reubenites, Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh were allotted their
inheritance in the Promised Land on the eastern side of River Jordan. They were blessed with valiant men of war and
were united against the enemies; they
assisted one another to snuff out the enemies in the land in order to possess
the land allotted to them.
18 The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of
valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and
skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that
went out to the war.
19
And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.
The
LORD God was with them, and helped them; He was intreated of them because they
put their trust in Him. The LORD God destroyed their enemies before them (v25).
20
And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their
hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he
was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.
They
began so well; sadly, they didn't end well.
They
were so favoured by the LORD; however, they went a whoring.
25
¶And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring
after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them
26
And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the
spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the
Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them
unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.
What
a tragic end - they were sacked from their inheritance, conquered and scattered
among the heathens whose gods they went whoring after, and eventually
assimilated by the heathens.
