Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

What's so obscure about Rev 20:14? And Rev 20:15?

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.
This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life
was cast into the lake of fire.
Rev 20

Sir, may I ask.
Smartyn said that we should only focus on the clearly stated things in the Bible and should not let 1 obscure verse throw us off course. I think he meant the Rev 20:14 verse.

What do you think?

-------

That's good advice. Things that are clearly stated enlighten those that are not so clearly stated - to rightly divide the word of truth.

But remember, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." 2 Tim 3:16.

"All scripture" includes the so-called obscure passages.

The inspired Scriptures must be rightly divided.

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim 2:15.

"Man shall not live by bread alone, BUT by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." "Every word" includes those considered obscure passages.

All Scriptures, rightly divided, are in perfect harmony and unity, without any contradictions.

What's so obscure about Rev 20:14? And Rev 20:15?

Which part is hard to understand? Which part is not clearly stated?
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The claim of obscurity is just a pathetic and lame excuse to dismiss whatever one does not want to believe! Ask for clarity, and thou shalt find it.

So much for the shibboleth of sola scriptura! Just a cheapskate religious platitude to impress the gullible.

It's cowardice to label a teaching as false without demonstrating its falsity. I will demonstrate the falsity of a teaching with the author, to make sure I have understood the author correctly, before I call it a falsehood.

Seriously, even a donkey can bray "falsehood" loud and clear for whatever he doesn't like or understand.

1 Corinthians 14:38 KJT — But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

Forget him and move on... till he comes begging for you.
