Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Why aren't you hung up on the truth you preach?

Are you hung up on the wall like these plants?

#HungUpOn

A disheartened soul said, "I’m very sad/disheartened to hear that you are not hung up on the very truth you so incessantly preach."

I responded:
I so incessantly preach [just to parrot the disheartened soul - but I don't preach it incessantly!] on the distinction between eternal salvation and temporal salvation ["the very truth"] for several reasons:

- that believers may be humbled that they are saved by grace alone indeed, or else they foolishly think they contribute something to their eternal salvation, thus robbing God’s glory.

- that believers may be reminded that they are to work out their own salvation (temporal) with fear and trembling;

- that they, God's children, won’t twist and wrest the Scriptures to their own destruction (temporal).

2 Peter 3:16 “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

Why should I be hung up about the truth? I preach it, I believe it, I live it; I'm not one bit hung up on it. I'm puzzled; am I supposed to be hung up on it?

**hung up on - adjective: having a great or excessive interest in or preoccupation with someone or something. (Webster)

Preacher friends, is there any truth you "incessantly preach" and are hung up with? And what do you do if you are hung up on a certain truth? Thanks.

To be "not hung up on" a thing in my experience means to be growing and developing a healthy mindset. I'm not sure I understand the objection your questioner sets forth. To be "hung up on" something like only preaching the precious doctrines of God's eternal electing grace, is to ignore the need for temporal obedience to the commands of Christ. Preaching the whole counsel of God includes a balanced delivery of the truths of sovereign grace (eternal and monergistic) and practical obedience for timely deliverance (temporal and synergistic.)
