Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Things which Must Shortly Come to Pass

Verily I say unto you,
This generation shall not pass,
till all these things be fulfilled.

Things which Must Shortly Come to Pass

Inquirer: "Si fu, how would you interpret this verse on Armageddon?"

Revelation 16:16 Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

Here is the text from the KJT:
Revelation 16:16 "And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

QUESTION:
Who gathered whom together to what place, and for what purposes?

Much of the book of Revelation is couched in apocalyptic signs and visions and is not easy to understand.

But what we are certain of is that the Lord Jesus Christ instructed Apostle John to write those things "which must shortly come to pass."

Revelation 1:1 KJT — The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John.

It was urgent that the writing be done immediately to warn the seven (represents the complete number) churches about the things which must shortly come to pass.

Revelation 1:11 KJT — Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

It is of utmost importance to note this historical background.

The graphic visions of tribulations described in most of the book of Revelation relate to the tribulations prior to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.

Matthew 24:21 KJT — For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Matthew 24:29 KJT — Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

In both of these passages, the Lord Jesus was speaking of the judgment upon Israel in 70 AD.

In light of these, Rev 16:16 is a description of the gathering of Roman armies to converge upon Jerusalem prior to its final destruction in 70 AD.

Strong's Greek-Hebrew concordance gives the word Armageddon as a compound of two Hebrew words: (1) har; a mountain or range of hills. (2) meged, means to be eminent; a distinguished thing.

It is a reference to the eminent city of Jerusalem that sat on a mountain range.

[In Rev. 16:16... Hence in Revelation, a place of great slaughter, the scene of a terrible retribution upon the wicked.] - BlueLetterBible

The Book of Revelation was written some years before 70AD, and Apostle John was commanded to write those things which must shortly come to pass for the warning of those churches then; it is not of something in the distant future!!!  No, there is nothing about the modern secular Israel.

I'm a servant of Christ, si fu of none. 😀

Inquirer:
Sigh, no double prophecy?

sing:
Dual fulfilment prophecy?

Take a look at a typical article here: read it; it's a few minutes read only.
https://www.gotquestions.org/prophecy-double-dual-fulfillment.html

The first example the author gives has a reference to Rev 16:16.

It wasn't a dual fulfilment prophecy at all.

What happened on the day of Pentecost and what happened in 70 AD, as prophesied by Joel, are completely distinct. The dreadful day of the LORD is the LORD's vengeance on Israel in 70 AD - prophesied often by the minor prophets, like Joel, Amos, Malachi, etc.

Joel 1:15 "Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come."

Amos 5:18 "Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! To what end is it for you? The day of the LORD is darkness, and not light."

Malachi 4:5 "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD."

Too many theologians CARELESSLY misread the prophecy concerning the END of the Jewish theocratic world as a prophecy concerning the end of this physical world and invented the fiction of double fulfilment prophecy. This is a classic example. They can't distinguish between the end of the ancient Jewish world in 70AD and the end of this present world.

There is a similar issue with the other examples he gave. Only the example of virgin birth sounds plausible... but you have to believe that there is another real virgin birth apart from the virgin birth of Jesus!

Inquirer:
How about Gog and Magog in Rev 20: 8-9? Do u think they have any connections to the Israel of today with the Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran?

sing:
Just read Rev 20 and let it say what it says. Do you see any such connections? Do you see dogs and maggots there?

Rev 20 gives a bird's eye view of the whole gospel age, with the binding of Satan at its beginning (v1) and for a thousand years - symbolic of the long but definite period of the whole gospel age marked by the two comings of Christ.

When the 1000 years have expired, Satan shall be loosed for a little time to wreak havoc upon the saints (NOT Israel!!!), then Christ shall appear... and it's game over for Satan.

Read the whole chapter slowly.

Why do you need to find some connections to modern secular Israel, with Ham-ass, Hez-dollar and I-run? I fear you approach the Bible with preconceived ideas and then try to make the Scriptures fit those ideas. That eisegesis; we want exegesis. The former is READING INTO the text; the latter is DRAWING OUT of the text. Look for what's there; not for what's imagined is there. It is so easy to do the latter.

p/s Just my understanding at this stage.

Rev 16 has nothing to do with ad 70.

Bradley Hilton,
Some have to say something;
Others have something to say.
Be the latter, scholar sir.

Revelation 16:16 "And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

QUESTION:
Who gathered whom together to what place, and for what purposes?
Surely Rev 16:16 has to do with SOMETHING.
Thanks, Sir.

Sing, I already said something Revelation 16 has nothing to do with ad 70. Again that's a Preterist error. You will be saying Nero is the beast next.

Post mill has to be challenged too. No where does Christ promise a Sabbath before the Second coming Saints are promised a cross and Tribulation.

Paul Migdal
I believe that the book of Revelation tells the story of the church of God from the time of Christ’s ascension to the end of time. And papal Rome covers most of the book. Rev 12, 13, 17, 19 are all about Rome. The pagan Roman Empire turns into papal Rome and persecutes the saints

The dating of John's writing gives me pause to adopt fully before 70ad but much seems to fit. I am undecided on Revelation as if yet but believe much if Matthew 23, 24 and parts of 25 are 30-70AD.

Thank you for this message!

Well explained, brother. Thanks.
