Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Quickening versus Converting

"The end of the word being preached and heard...
is CONVERTING the soul."

#Quickening_vs_Converting

"The end of the word being preached and heard... is CONVERTING the soul."

Amen, and amen. CONVERTING the soul. The ministry of the preached word has nothing to do with the quickening of the dead. The quickening of the dead is the free, sovereign, independent, and immediate activity of the Triune God, without any instrumentality.

John 1 - KJV
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 3:8 KJV — The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

John 10:28 KJV — And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Only a quickened soul is capable of being converted by the ministry of the word.

Luke 1
76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

CONVERTING. That is correct.
It's needful to point out that most Christians use the term "convert" as a synonym for "regenerate." This is one of the many ways that common Christian parlance does not conform to the bible's use of a term. Jesus said to Peter, "But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art CONVERTED, strengthen thy brethren." (Luke 22:32) The Lord was not referring to Peter's future regeneration. Peter was a regenerate man already (Matthew 16:16-17, I John 5:1). The

Lord was speaking of Peter coming into an understanding of the truths that he had heard declared, but had yet to understand or embrace. THAT is what is intended by "conversion" in the bible. Only those who have the ears to hear are capable of receiving instruction in the things of the spirit of God (I Corinthians 2:14).
