Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things" 2Ti 2:7.

"... the just shall live by faith."

"...the just shall live by faith" 
is a DESCRIPTION of the just;
it is NOT a PRESCRIPTION for how to be just.
TOO MANY carelessly see it as the latter. 



... the just shall live by faith."

Habakkuk 2:4 KJT
Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Romans 1:17 KJT
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Galatians 3:11 KJT
But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Hebrews 10:38 KJT
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

The words are repeated four times; there must be a good reason for the repetition.

"The just shall live by faith" is an indicative statement declaring a certain fact about the just, i.e. the justified ones; they shall live by faith.

"The just shall live by faith" is not, not, not a statement on how the unjustified condemned is justified, i.e. by faith, as it's commonly imagined - by both the Calvinists and their first cousins, the Arminians.

The living shall live by breath is a statement about the living; it is not what a dead man must do. i.e. breathes, to become alive!

How an unjustified condemned sinner is justified by God is plainly stated here:

Romans 3:24 KJT - "Being justified FREELY by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus..."

This Scripture states two matters concerning justification:

- first, the GROUND or basis of the condemned is justified by God: it's "through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus," i.e. through the faith(fullness) of Christ Jesus in His redemptive work. It's NOT through your faith in Christ; this is a fable.

- second, the MANNER the condemned is justified by God; it's "FREELY by His grace."

A man's faith is a manifestation that he has been justified, even as the breath of a man is a demonstration that a dead man has been made alive; faith is a fruit of justification, even as breath is an effect of the life bestowed.

2 Timothy 2:7 KJT — Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

Time to move beyond shibboleths and soundbites.
