Luke 5
- KJT
36 ¶And he spake also a parable unto them; No
man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the
new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with
the old.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles;
else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall
perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles;
and both are preserved.
39 No man also having drunk old wine
straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.
The gracious Lord is so sympathetic and
patient with those who have only drunk old wine; He knows it is so hard for
them to even entertain the new wine. He knows that no such men will straightway
desire the new nor can they; that's why it's so hard for the religious leaders
to consider His teachings; they will not even give the new wine a sniff; they
are addicted to and intoxicated by the old; the old is better, they insist.
Even so, those who are so addicted to old wines of justification before God by
their faith, gospel regeneration, etc.
No man who is so used to an error will
straightway understand and convert to the truth; therefore, work patiently with
him.
Lord, be patient with us; help us to be
receptive to the new things Thou wilt show us. Amen.
