Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

We look for new heavens and a new earth

 2Pet 3:13
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Some questions to assist you to rightly divide the word of truth:

1. What does the adverb 'nevertheless' refer back to?
- what has been set before them?

2. Who does the pronoun 'we' refer to?

3. Concerning the promise:
- Who made the promise?
- To whom was the promise made?
- Where is the promise recorded?

4. What is 'the new heavens and a new earth' that were promised?
- Why is it 'the new heavens and a new earth' to the recipients?
- What were the old heavens and old earth?
- What happened to the old, and when?

5 What does 'look for' imply?
- Are they still looking for it?
- Or what was looked for has since arrived?

6. Why is the new said to be indwelt with righteousness?

7. What was the old indwelt with?
- How and when was it particularly manifested?

8. Why was this promise so relevant to those who looked for it?
- Why was Apostle Peter reminding themselves of this promise?

9. Now read Apostle Paul reminding the Hebrews believers of the same promise: Hebrews 12
25 ¶See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

What is Apostle Paul reminding the Jewish believers of? (Now check 2Pet 3:16).

Let me hear your thoughts if you can keep to the questions.

Thank you most kindly.
