Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Is your "sola scriptura" just an irrelevant religious shibboleth

This little sheriff wants to line them up with the Scriptures!

##solascriptura

I wrote in a men's group a few days ago when it was vaguely suggested I may stifle challenges.
-------

He insinuated, “... or even worse, a method to prevent challenges.”

My answer: This is a church of Jesus Christ; every member has the same voice; every member can challenge anything that goes on in the church – just make sure that he has the Bible held firmly in his left hand as he raises his challenges with his right hand. Every member ought to know their rights and their responsibility.

Though I loathe needless contention, I'm not one who shuns or stifles challenges. All I request is, "just make sure that he has the Bible held firmly in his left as he raises his challenges with his right hand." Just don't bring Calvin, Luther, Gill or your ex-pastor - with no disrespect to any of them - in your left hand... because that betrays that your "sola scriptura" is just an irrelevant religious shibboleth - all too common in Christendom.

With the Bible wide open in the left hand, any challenges by the right hand will drive everyone back to the Bible; this exercise will benefit all who are Bible students.

2Tim 2 KJT
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive*; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

*to strive: to engage in a war of words, to quarrel, wrangle, dispute... contention.

Amen! Let God be true and every man a liar. Sound bites and deference to historic suppositions are worthless in the light of God's word.
