The
unbelievers... who are they?
We
need to rethink on this matter. It may come across as very radical... yet when
you think about it, it is really very simple.
Let
me put it this way: if any one can be charged for unbelieving by God, then I
can on the authority of the Scriptures insist that that charged person is a
child of God. Do you get the drift?
Let
me ask some questions to assist you in thinking through...
-
Who can be guilty of unbelieving that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Saviour?
-
Of whom does God require to believe Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour?
-
Would God require a man, whom He had not given to Christ and whom Christ did
not redeem, to believe that Jesus is his Lord and Saviour? Does God has any
legitimate ground to charge that man as unbelieving in Jesus Christ?
So
you see, when the Scriptures deal with the foolish, the unfaithful, and the
unbelieving (as Mt 25 is dealing), it is understood and presupposed that ONLY
God's children are involved. Only God's children can LEGITIMATELY and LAWFULLY
be charged with being foolish (aren't wise in waiting as they should),
unfaithful (not faithful as expected) , and unbelieving (not believing and
ministering to His people).
The
non-elect are bound to God by the covenant of creation. As creatures of the
Creator, they are duty bound to the terms and conditions of the covenant of
creation... to render obedience to God, and honour Him as their Creator. Their
just condemnation has nothing to do with unbelieving in Jesus Christ.
The
basis of their righteous condemnation is spelled out in Rom 1:
19 ¶ Because that which may be known of God is
manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are
made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they
glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their
imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they
became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible
God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted
beasts, and creeping things.
The
elect are bound to God by the covenant of redemption. As God's redeemed people
in Christ, they are duty-bound to the terms and conditions of the covenant of
redemption... believe the truth of their salvation in Jesus Christ, and conduct
themselves as God's children, because they are God's children by grace in Jesus
Christ.
All
the above is intended to help us to rethink the whole idea of the biblical
usage of "believers and unbelievers" - that both are God's children.
God's children who are unbelieving are rightly charged as unbelieving, and
incur the displeasure of the Lord.
The
non-elect, those who are not redeemed nor God's children are never expected to
believe the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, or do the will of the FATHER. They
are duty bound by the covenant of creation to honour their Creator... not doing
so render them without excuse!
Just
my thought. Yours on the subject are welcome. I'm all ear to listen.
