Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

As the steward of God...

As the steward of God.

(Last evening, we covered Titus 1:6-9 in our mid-weekly bible study.)

Titus 1
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed... Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

A few comments on the above:

- as a steward of God: you called by God, and set apart for Him, His truth and His people

- as a steward of God: you must not be self-willed or man-willed, but God-willed. i.e,  be taught His word of truth and directed by God.

- as a steward of God: you are taught the faithful word, even the faith of God's elect, the faith once delivered to the saints by the Apostles, the common faith declaring the common salvation of God's people.

- as a steward of God: you hold fast the word of truth, and contend earnestly for the same.

- as a steward of God: you are to be grounded in sound doctrines from the faithful word.

- as a steward of God: you are to teach, to exhort the believers with the word of truth.

- as a steward of God: you are to convince the gainsayers, those who contradict the faithful word and sound doctrine, that they may be sound in the faith.

To another Apostle Paul instructed in this manner:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Many need to be ashamed but are shameless!

Christianity has been transformed into Churchianity

Christianity has been transformed into Churchianity

December 7, 2019

In the early 1990s, I was ploughing through Dr. Warfield's 10-volume Works (by Baker Book House). It was the first time I came across the idea of a Christless Christianity* - Dr. Warfield solemnly warned the readers. The very idea itself seemed implausible to me, how could such a thing be but I was green and naive then. Over the years, as the Lord taught me things, I begin to understand his warning.

Recently I interacted with a man who actually rejoices in the vast varieties of beliefs found in churches; he sees it as a good healthy competition among churches. Such a perverse perspective is entirely in harmony with his disdain for doctrines; every believer is entitled to his personal opinions, he insisted.

Be careful with such a mindset. Forget John 3:16 for a moment. Remember these two 3:16 instead

2 Peter 3:16 KJV — As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

2Tim 3:16KJV - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Christless Christianity is a reality, as real as the prevalent Churchianity.

May the Lord have mercy upon this untoward generation.

*(I checked, the article is found in Volume 3, chapter 7, starting from page 313.)

Conformed to the image of Christ

#Conformed_to_the_image_of_Christ

Romans 8
28 ¶And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

If you were given a chance to become like any person of your choice, who would that be?

Which great businessman, celebrity,  president, sportsman, world leader, etc. would you have chosen?

How is that choice compared to the perfect, and glorious choice of God for you?

It seems that many Christians would hate the very thought that they have been predestinated to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ; They are ashamed of Christ and His hard sayings.  "No such Christians," some naive souls would retort.

Mark 8:38 KJV — Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

I can hear some scorn, "Oh, but surely Christ is speaking of unbelievers!"
Pray tell, how could unbelievers be charged for being ashamed of Christ and his word?

The faith of God in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ

The faith of God; He has great confidence
in only begotten Son.

December 1, 2017
https://www.facebook.com/sing.f.lau/posts/10210504453423079

The faith of God... the faith of Christ... your faith in them.

Rom 3:3 "For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?"

Rom 3:22 "Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

God has faith in Jesus, His only begotten Son. "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased... be hearing him."

For thousands of years, God had freely justified multitudes of His elect and gave them eternal life based on what the promised seed of the woman would accomplish when the eternal Word was made flesh in time and begotten the Son of God.

How could God justly forgive the sins of His people prior to Christ making the actual payment for them on the cross?

Ro 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God..."

In the above text...
- Through whose faith in Christ blood?
- What do 'sins that are past' refer to? Whose sins? 'Past' with reference to what?
- Is 'his righteousness' referring to God's attribute of righteousness, or to God's provision of righteousness?
- To what is the forbearance of God related? What would have happened if there was no such divine forbearance?

Joe
I'll give you my view of the passage.
I believe Paul is referring to all the sins of God's elect that were committed prior to Calvary. God didn't save His people in the Old Testament era one way and now in the New Testament era another way. He saves all of His chosen ones alike.

If this be the case, God relied on the finished work of Christ for the salvation of His Old Testament people just as He does for us. From a human, temporal perspective, Paul could describe this work as the Father's faith in His Son's blood long before the Son came and shed His blood.

"Faith" in this sense certainly does not carry the notion of hope, or of trusting what we do not know. It rather carries the idea of perfect reliance. The Father applied the finished work of Christ to His elect in regeneration, fully relying on the work, although it was yet future. Hope this helps.

Dav
Q. Through whose faith in Christ's blood?
A. God the Father’s – Knowing that the Son would be faithful to die for the sins of many.

Q. What do 'sins that are past' refer to? 'Past' with reference to what?
A. Sins of God’s children prior to the coming of Christ.

Q. Is 'his righteousness' God's attribute of righteousness, or God's provision of righteousness?
A. Christ’s righteousness as the only acceptable sacrifice.

Q. To what is the forbearance of God related?
A. God tolerated the sins of His people and considered them as already forgiven, even though the actual act of redemption had not been accomplished.

Bernie
Br. Joe, you have exactly expressed my understanding of Paul's language in these precise verses (Rom. 3:24-25).

People err when they attempt to define the Father's faith in His Son by applying Paul's faith definition that is labeled in Hebrews 11:1. This particular verse (11:1) describes the faith of the regenerated elect, not the faith God had in His Son. God's faith is that confidence and reliance had in His Son by reason of God's perfect, absolute knowledge.

Man's faith is variable (neither consistent nor absolute); whereas, God's faith is constant and is with the absolute perfection of certainty. Brother Joe's post is with such clarity of truth. Many thanks for it.

I appreciate this needed discussion

Wells
Thanks for your post, Bro. Sing. Just today I saw someone post this verse and then go on to say that "past sins" refers only to the sins of believers prior to regeneration. I appreciate your explanation.

This illustration will help...

When I was growing up in a little village, my late father had to go away for works, often for weeks on ends. He would make the arrangement with the local grocery store, to ensure that the shop should supply whatever his household would need in his absence. Dad would leave the family with a notebook; we would bring along that notebook to the shop to get whatever supplies the household required, and the shopkeeper who had faith in my father, would gladly supply us everything we had need of in Dad's absence, recording every item in the notebook.

When Dad returned, we would bring the notebook along and settled all the debts incurred. The grocer man had faith in Dad and supplied us the groceries on credit.

God had faith in the Word, the second person of the Godhead, absolutely confident that the eternal Word would be made flesh and be begotten the Son of God in order to execute the work of redemption for all those given to Him in the eternal covenant of redemption.

"I am he that liveth and... have the keys of hell and of death."

Christ holds the keys of hell and of death

Our Lord Jesus Christ holds the keys of hell and of death...
Rev 1:18
"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."

Why did Christ make this grand statement?
Does this great declaration has any relevance to you?
What is the significance and relevance of this declaration?
How does it comfort you?

But Christ has no key to the lake of fire, since NONE of His will end up there!

Rev 20:13
"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works."

Death and hell DELIVERED UP the dead which were in them... Christ has the keys of hell and death. This will not be possible if Christ did not have the keys of both! They must deliver up His redeemed who had messed up their live and ended up there! Christ did so solemnly warn His people the reality of hell.

Rev 20:14
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

His redeemed shall never be troubled by neither... since the resurrection to glory.

Julius Stewart
So, both the elect disobedient and the non elect go to hell after death. Then at the final judgment the elect are brought out and the non elect are cast into the lake of fire. This is double jeopardy. This view has elect being tormented in hell. Run from this teaching Bro Vhey. The only hell an elect child of God will experience is on earth.

Sing F Lau
Julius, welcome back again. You can't resist, can you?

Julius Stewart
Oh. I resist. But Vhey is my friend. Evidently, he likes your comments. I was inquiring if he really "likes" your comments. Evidently, he does. He has shared them. Because he shared them, they appear on my wall. The question is with Vhey. Do you believe this strange teaching? I would not have seen it if he had not shared your post.

Sing F Lau
What would Christ do to the teachers of "the true church" who so conveniently explain away His teaching on hell, all His solemn warning to His disciples?

Sing F Lau
Bro Vhey, better listen to your big brother Julius.
He thinks you are a kid who can't think for yourself.

[sing: Vhey has deleted all his comments]

Julius Stewart
Let Vhey answer for himself.

Sing F Lau
It doesn't matter one bit what Vhey wish to believe!
Guard your friends well! <LOL>

Julius Stewart
No it is you who denies that the hell of the rich man an lazarus was a place of burning and torment. This is exactly the words of Jesus. So the disobedient elect and the non elect both burn in hell after death. That is until the final judgment. This implies that gospel obedience delivers from being tormented in burning hell. This is a hell of a doctrine. Promoted by two of the worlds greatest. SING AND CHARLES.

Sing F Lau
You had better substantiate that I deny the reality of the hell spoken of in Luke 16 - otherwise you shall be labelled a LIAR.
It is the PBs like you who deny the reality of the hell that Jesus so solemnly warned His disciples. The PBs say there is no real hell for the elect... and all of Jesus' warnings to them were not about real, literal hell, but just some experiences on earth.

I have heard all you have said... why do you still return and leave your vomit here? Have some self-respect!

All the warnings of Jesus Christ imply gospel obedience delivers from being tormented in hell. Go and read all his warnings about hell, and the great need to avoid it.

Christ's work of eternal redemption delivers from the LAKE OF FIRE.

Julius Stewart
Vhey do you agree?

Sing F Lau
Sounds like a pathetic man in need of validation!
Brother Vhey, do him a favour, and assure him please.

Good night. knocking off.

Julius Stewart
Vhey do you agree that gospel obedience delivers the elect from hell after death? Do you believe an elect can go to hell after death? Do you believe the elect after being purchased by blood on the cross can experience hell after death still?

Sing F Lau
Ask him privately. Thanks.
Wait for his answer. I have blocked Julius Stewart for the moment.
I don't want him to rant and rave while I sleep! <LOL>

Sing F Lau
The PBs make the right distinction between eternal salvation and temporal salvation. That's a great truth that enables a man to rightly divide the word of truth.

However, to relegate hell, which is in the temporal realm, into the eternal realm leaves a whole lot of contradictions and inconsistencies.

The eternal state begins at the resurrection to eternal glory!

Eternal redemption saved God's elect from the lake of fire... which is why Christ never warned His redeemed against the danger and reality of the lake of fire.

Eternal redemption DOES NOT save His people from the real danger of hell between death and resurrection to glory. This is why Christ warned His disciples so solemnly against the reality of hell and exhorted to take drastic measures to avoid it!!!

Sing F Lau
It is something that can easily be undone, with no harm done at all - except for causing julius some panic!!!

Your reply should give Julius some peace and rest!

Sing F Lau
That is true, Brother Vhey. And one doesn't have to be all worked up into frenzy like Julius Stewart!!!

He reacted so offensively, maybe because he has a great deal to lose... believing and teaching that the hell that Jesus so solemnly warned the disciples against is just figurative and limited to this life!!!

Charles Page
Greetings, this fine Lord's day, elder Julius!
