Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

As the steward of God.

(Last evening, we covered Titus 1:6-9 in our mid-weekly bible study.)

Titus 1
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed... Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

A few comments on the above:

- as a steward of God: you called by God, and set apart for Him, His truth and His people

- as a steward of God: you must not be self-willed or man-willed, but God-willed. i.e,  be taught His word of truth and directed by God.

- as a steward of God: you are taught the faithful word, even the faith of God's elect, the faith once delivered to the saints by the Apostles, the common faith declaring the common salvation of God's people.

- as a steward of God: you hold fast the word of truth, and contend earnestly for the same.

- as a steward of God: you are to be grounded in sound doctrines from the faithful word.

- as a steward of God: you are to teach, to exhort the believers with the word of truth.

- as a steward of God: you are to convince the gainsayers, those who contradict the faithful word and sound doctrine, that they may be sound in the faith.

To another Apostle Paul instructed in this manner:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Many need to be ashamed but are shameless!
