Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Children, but reprobates in the faith!

A house, but a reprobate in the fitness for dwelling

Apostle Paul is addressing BRETHREN and SAINTS...
And these Corinthian BRETHREN and SAINTS were behaving very unbecomingly - having been misguided and deceived by some 'super apostles' and were disaffected towards Apostle Paul, and were doubting his office and his gospel.

These BRETHREN and SAINTS were acting unbecoming of the gospel - that Apostle Paul asked them to examine themselves, whether they be IN THE FAITH.

God's children may behave and conduct themselves in such an unbecoming way that they are NOT in the faith!

Their STATUS as BRETHREN and SAINTS is not being questioned! Their unbecoming conduct and spirit are they are reprobates in their conduct and spirit towards Apostle Paul.

Even Apostle Paul could be a CASTAWAY, a reprobate concerning the faith if he is not careful. "1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."

Sing F Lau
But so many take this passage as Apostle Paul's admonishing the Corinthians to examine whether they are reprobates in the context of divine election to eternal life!!!

Cattmule
Interesting view! But if there was no question of their status as brethren and Saints
Why then does it say to examine "whether ye be IN the faith".?

Sing F Lau
Quite simple, sir...

Make the distinction between being in the STATE OF GRACE, and being IN THE FAITH. [An illustration: a man in the state of life may not be in the state of health.]

God's children, who are already in THE STATE OF GRACE, need to be brought INTO the faith first through the gospel ministry... and by their obedience STAYS and REMAINS in the faith.

Their carelessness and disobedience will reverse that. Unbelief, and God's children are so capable of that, cause them to cease to be IN THE FAITH. BUT nothing will cause them to cease to be in the STATE OF GRACE - for that is wholly, solely, completely by the grace of God, and it is immutable and eternal!

You know, so many American citizens are disgustingly un-American! The same happens among God's children, and this explains the need for the question, "whether ye be IN the faith?"

Chapin
If we could just remember that the Scriptures were written for the Lord's children and not for the unregenerate perhaps, our thinking would tend to fall into place.

‎"Make the distinction between being in the STATE OF GRACE, and being IN THE FAITH."

Thanks, you are at least clear. I thought you would say something along those lines.
A man may profess faith and not be in a state of Grace.

However, I see the terms "in Christ", "in the Faith" as describing the same kind of people.
So I see Paul's call to the carnal Corinthians to examine themselves to see "whether they be in the faith" in the first place!
God's children, once they believe, can never "cease" being in the faith! Why?, because they are "kept by the power of God through faith" That faith is the "faith of God's elect." It is a faith that is "obtained through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. This faith will suffer assault but will "overcome the world"...."and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith"

The scriptures "are profitable" that the man of God may be throughly furnish unto every good work."
But Jerry, If your statement is correct then I guess Isiah didn't know that when he penned...
"Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteo...us man his thoughts, and let him return unto the Lord and He will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon."
Oh, but wait, the "wicked" and "unrighteous" spoken of there are actually regenerate and reconciled children of God, right?

Sing F Lau
MC@ A man may profess faith and not be in a state of Grace.
However, I see the terms "in Christ", "in the Faith" as describing the same kind of people.
================
There is probably a confusion in both statement.

A man is effectually called into a state of grace and salvation is UNITED to Christ, therefore is in Christ. There is nothing a man can do to bring himself to be in the state of grace or to be in Christ. That is entirely divine work alone, and man is entirely passive. Only when God HAS effectually called an elect and united him to Christ, a man is ENABLED to do something to be IN THE FAITH.

A man is in Christ by the free and sovereign work of God. And this work is complete and immutable.

A man is in the faith through the gospel ministry by his believing and obedience to the gospel. He does something right to be in the faith. He does something wrong, and he is NOT in the faith.

Apostle Paul who called the Corinthian to examine themselves whether they be in the faith said these words to the same people, " Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you."

========

Apostle Peter's faith did fail... and if Christ had not prayed for the recovery of his faith, he would have become a cast away concerning his faith. Those are historical facts.

Why pray against something from happening if there is no possibility of that ever happening?
Similarly, why warn against something happening if there is no possibly of that danger to actually happening?

It is quite simple to my simple mind.
It takes me NOTHING to be in the STATE OF GRACE. It is all by the free and sovereign grace of God. And there is nothing I can un-do what God has done for me. I am not involved in doing it, and I won't be involved in its un-doing.

It takes me, a child of God by His free and sovereign grace, a great deal to come into the faith, and remain in the faith. It is by my ACTIVE RESPONSES to God's will to enter into the faith, and to remain in the faith. By my carelessness and negligent, I may just undo that.

The Corinthians were already in the STATE OF GRACE before Apostle Paul's faithful ministry brought them into the faith of the gospel. Then some 'super apostles' came to the church in Corinth and preached another Jesus and another gospel as well as caricatured Apostle Paul and his gospel. Through this, the SAINTS and BRETHREN in Corinth were deceived and misled... prompting Apostle Paul to exhort them to examine whether they are STILL in the faith. They give all appearance that they are NO LONGER because of their doubt against Paul's apostleship and his gospel.

"One who is "in Grace" can NEVER "cease to be in the faith" - this is fiction at best; at worst, it is clearly anti-scriptural.

Just being honest. Keep talking

The words of a friend:
Dear Kindred IN Christ,
Thurs. Sept. 9, 2010
THE TRUTH IS ---
All men have NOT faith, and Paul told the Church of Thessalonica to pray that his ministry be DELIVERED FROM those “faithless” - 2nd Thess. 3:1-2. If the Gospel was the means to Eternal Life, then he has declared these folks are not worthy or capable of receiving such. Yet, we
know that the Gospel is preached to the FAITHFUL as an instrument of KNOWLEDGE OF who did save them Eternally - Covenantly, Legally and Vitally. Hulan Bass

Please say hello to Elder Hulan Bass. He is too enigmatic for too many people. Very few understand pb jargons!

Cattmule
The Lord Jesus declared ..."I have prayed...THAT THY FAITH FAIL NOT"
But Sing F Lau says "Peter's faith did fail." Do you not realise what you just stated?
I must believe the words of Christ!

Sing
I read that Peter denied Christ, with swearing and cursing... He forsook Christ and went back to his life... UNTIL Christ restored him. There were many like Peter who were not restored... but made a complete shipwreck of their faith.

Sing
‎"ALL MEN have not faith..." Very many believe "ALL MEN" included those dead in trespasses and sins, who obviously have not faith... but that is a foolish idea. It makes Paul to say something so obvious, and also as though he expects faith from such.

'ALL MEN" obviously refers specifically to the children of God, and NOT all of them are believing. This is a hard saying. It is so much easier to say the unbelieving are dead in trespasses and sins.

"As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sake: but as touching ELECTION, they are beloved for the father's sake."

How many Christians there are today who are unbelieving concerning THE GOSPEL once delivered to the saints.

Cattmule
Wow! I'll have to stay with: "For whatsoever is born of God OVERCOMETH the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our FAITH." 1 Jn 5:4
"Who are KEPT by the power of God through FAITH unto salvation ready to be revealed... in the last time." 1 Peter... 1:5
"But I have prayed for thee that thy FAITH FAIL NOT." Luke 22:32

One who is "in Grace" can NEVER "cease to be in the faith".

Sing
If this notion - One who is "in Grace" can NEVER "cease to be in the faith" - is true, then all those warnings to the BRETHREN and SAINTS (those brought into the state of grace by God's free grace are meaningless and redundant.

Or may be the apostles who issued those warnings didn't know such modern notions. Otherwise, the warnings sound foolish and redundant!

Cattmule
The warnings and exhortations of scripture to the saints are given to spur them to continue as they have begun, 'As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord so walk ye in Him.'
We need such warnings and exhortations because of opposition from ...within and without. And also because, as you said above "God's children are so capable of UNBELIEF"

Now, although all too capable of unbelief we are not then to conclude that we can cease to be in the faith, FAITH ISN'T JUST ACTS BUT IS A STATE.

When God gives true faith, it CAN NEVER BE FATALLY AND FINALLY EXTINGUISHED IN THIS LIFE. True faith will always be opposed, but will never be fatally and finally overcome.
To contend otherwise is to deny the final perseverance of the saints.

"BUT WE ARE NOT OF THEM THAT DRAW BACK, BUT OF THEM WHICH BELIEVE UNTO THE SAVING OF THE SOUL"
Thanks for your time, Pastor Sing.

Sing
Warnings against the real danger of falling from the faith are very different from exhortations to continue walking in the faith.

The former presupposes the real danger of God's children falling away. To say otherwise is to make the warnings redundant and foolish, and turning them into lies.

The latter presupposes that the real danger can be avoided with watchfulness and diligence.

Both are the teaching of Scriptures. You choose to believe the latter. That's your liberty!

And there are plain facts that some of God's children have made shipwreck of their faith some would rather judge that such do not have faith, to begin with because of the presupposition that God's children cannot make a shipwreck of their faith.

Cattmule
How then, in light of your view do you interpret:
"For whatsoever is born of God OVERCOMETH the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our FAITH." 1 Jn 5:4 ??
"Who are KEPT by the power of God through FAITH unto salvation ready to be revealed... in the last time." 1 Peter... 1:5 ??

Sing F Lau
Thought through such rhetorical questions... they arise out of confusion. Those passages are consistent with the truth that every child of God - born of God - is kept and preserved in the state of grace, THROUGH the FAITHfulness of Jesus Christ.

The state of grace is a direct result of regeneration. Regeneration brings an elect into the state of grace. Regeneration is solely the divine act... remotely connected with the perseverance of those regenerated!

The SOUND of "our faith" has distracted you... you miss its SENSE. "Our FAITH" is that faith of the elect worked in each one by the Holy Spirit at effectual calling. It is "our FAITH" in the sense that it belongs to us, our possession; not our act of believing or faith.

It is "our faith" NOT in the sense that we persevere in a life of believing and obeying.

You insist on the latter; you get the SOUND but miss the SENSE.

Your being in the state of grace is kept by the power of God... not your act of persevering in the believing and obeying to the end of your life.

Your false presupposition causes you to reject what is plainly stated in the Scriptures. God's children do suffer destruction in this life... they make a shipwreck of their faith... they fell out of the faith because of negligence and carelessness.

I have said enough. I will let you have the last word.
I will archive the exchanges and leave it on the blog for my church members to read, You will appear as "Catt-Mule".

Thank you for the discussion.
There are not just religious niceties. They are inspired truth. There are BRETHREN, children of God. A child of God may not be in the faith by their unbelief and unbecoming conduct.

Feed my sheep... NOT help Me produce my sheep

The Lord said, "Feed my sheep."
He didn't say, "Help me to produce my sheep."
Dr Marrow heard loud and clear, and understood the implication!

Sing F Lau Here is an apt and powerful observation by Dr Marrow

"After the Lord's resurrection He appeared to Peter and John by the Lake and fixed their breakfast. He then rebuked and re-commissioned Peter. He commanded Peter to feed his sheep... not win souls, not make plans for evangelism but feed my lambs." Marrow.

I would add, the whole purpose of evangelism is to feed and nourish God's children, make disciples of them.

Amen.

Sing F Lau
I would say that in all of his ministry, Apostle Paul was ACUTELY aware that his ministry is specifically for the children of God, i.e. the elect that are already regenerated.

The proof is in Paul's own words: "Therefore I endure all things... for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory." 2Ti 2:10

He endured all things for the ELECT'S sake, and no one else. Period. He was acutely conscious that he is of no service to them that are perishing. His ministry is relevant ONLY to them that ARE SAVED already.

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which ARE SAVED it is the power of God."

Sing F Lau That's an interesting observation: feeders and fishers.
Please elaborate a wee bit! I want to learn the difference.
I know Peter was both.

Does your praying affect or effect anything?

This creature is as inquisitive as Dr Marrow

Dr Marrow (a pseudonym) is an adjunct professor of theology in a southern baptist seminary (calvinistic!), and it was a pleasure studying the Scriptures with him. The exchanges touched on many issues related to the gospel truth of eternal salvation by God's free grace... and the temporal salvation God's children have to work out for themselves with fear and trembling. May the Lord grant light to each one who read these exchanges.

Marrow
Hi Sing, I guess what I am asking you about prayer is this. In your view does your praying affect or effect anything. When God determined to destroy the children of Israel...and Moses interceded and God immediately said...I will not destroy them...did Moses' prayer really make a difference. Will God send things to your life that you... ask for that He would not send if you did not ask for them? I am trying to figure out if your Calvinism is fatalism or if there is room for God to change His responses to us in answer to prayer. As always no offense is intended...I am wanting to understand. Thanks.

Sing
That's a good question.

You probably didn't look the link I told you about. If you had, your question would have been answered nicely. The link is here: http://things-new-and-old.blogspot.com/2009/03/divine-sovereignty-human-responsibility.html

I know what FATALISM IS - I live among turks who are a fatalist to a man. And for the record, I have rejected Calvinism... there is much error in its. The Calvinists have rejected me in any case.

Concerning your good question, it would be very helpful for you to remember one thing, the distinction between eternal salvation and our timely salvation... the difference between God's work of redemption for us and His work of providence with us. In the former, we are entirely passive; in the latter, we are actively involved.

In matters of eternal salvation, no amount of prayers change ANYTHING. God's has presdestinated the exact number to eternal salvation, and at His own appointed and approved time, He shall effectually call each one unto eternal salvation... justifying, regenerating, adopting, and fitting him for eternal glory - all by Himself.

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."

All of these activities of God are UN-conditional, all by His own free and sovereign will, no ifs and not buts, and the object is entirely passive. The eternal redemption of His people is UNCONDITIONAL, and it is just that - unconditional, including the prayers of men. Everything of man and in man is EXCLUDED!

In matters of God's providential dealing with us as His children, prayers matter supremely. God ordained prayers for His children... for their well-being. Read this short article http://things-new-and-old.blogspot.com/2009/03/divine-sovereignty-human-responsibility.html
I won't repeat them here.

I hope I answer your good and honest question. Good questions always deserve good answers.

Marrow
Sing, I have just read your webpage and it answers my questions very well. I am sorry I posted the last post before I looked. Thanks again.

Marrow
Hi Sing, call me obtuse...call me dense...call me a heretic...but I just do not believe that a person will be finally saved without trusting Christ. Twist me up...ask me about those who have no mind or babies...and all I can tell you is what I believe based on what I understand about the nature of God. I just do not believe God calls... men to go to the mission field, get hacked to pieces and burnt alive in order that God's people might be made more comfortable by conversion. Time is short. Eternity is very long. If you are right missions finally mean little. I respect you and one consequence of our conversation is that you make me want to pray for more light and insight into God's word. If I come to a different understanding you will be one of the first to know. God bless. mm

Sing
Brother, I will never call you such... if anything, you are a student of God's word... just as I am.
By 'finally saved' I assume that you mean enter into eternal glory. Correct me if I am wrong.

By 'trusting Christ' I assume that you mean having heard the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ and believe. Correct me if I am wrong.

May I ask, when it is declared:

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified"

is any of those acts of God conditioned upon ANY activities of those acted upon? (Please note that the passage speaks, and applies EQUALLY to EVEY SINGLE ELECT. Don't conveniently ignore or wilfully overlook this simple and plain fact).

Is the final glorification of an elect conditioned upon anything he does?

I affirm that the temporal salvation, i.e. his spiritual wellbeing here on earth, is conditioned upon the activities of other men and his own, in obedience to the will of God.

So many shout 'eternal salvation by God's free grace' very inconsistently... saying it is by grace alone, yet also at the same time that same salvation (eternal) conditioned upon some acts of men!

Sing
Brother Marrow, the whole thing about the nature of God with respect to conversion His children, we wrestled with it long ago when we were at the Evangelical forum.

An argument that says, the gospel conversion of every child of God is guara...nteed by the very nature of God, is at best a baseless presumption, at worst contrary to biblical fact.

May I ask, how much gospel conversion in His children is guaranteed by the nature of God?

I do know certain things that are absolutely guaranteed by God towards all the elect: justification by free grace, regeneration, adoption, and glorification. In these things - all the elect are EQUALLY acted upon in the same exact manner, and to the same exact degree. All these are necessary for eternal glory.

Gospel conversion? What exactly is guaranteed by God's nature for each elect in gospel conversion?

Please tell us your thoughts.

Marrow
Sing, I find justified children of wrath untenable. I find justified rebels without scriptural evidence. I find justified natural men w/o the holy Spirit unthinkable. I find justified God-haters unbiblical. I find justified Christ rejector...s impossible. I am short on time at the moment but I will try to get back to you on some of the things you raise above.

Sing
Marrow, let me assure you, I don't believe any of the MONSTERS you mention above. Either I am a very poor communicator, or you are very lousy in drawing a conclusion from what you have read. Yes, such are indeed untenable, without scriptural ...evidence and unthinkable and unbiblical, and impossible.

None of the above monsters listed by is the same as those who are ALREADY justified by God's free grace but are not yet brought to faith through the gospel ministry. At least I see a VAST difference between the two. Perhaps you see them as the way you have described!

I was instructed by an old man this basic truth: a biblical distinction is the essence of sound theology... rightly dividing the word of truth is the essence of sound theology.

A justified man had the wrath upon his sins removed.
A justified man fears God and works righteousness.
A justified man is indwelt by the Spirit of God.
A justified man is no haters of God.
A justified man is NO haters of Christ if the gospel has not even been brought to him!

Take a look at Cornelius before apostle Peter was sent to him! Behold the Italian centurion and learn some lessons... that justification and regeneration preceded the gospel ministry and conversion.

It is evil and wicked to malign and slander a man as a Christ rejector when he has not even heard of the gospel of Christ!

Marrow
Brother Sing, maybe you think that all the elect are regenerated from the womb...or even at conception...because, if you don't believe that, then you do indeed have men walking around who have been eternally justified but are yet in a state of rebellion and all the other things I said...else they are NOT children of wrath even as others.

Sing
Brother Marrow, for you to say all the above, I can only conclude you have not UNDERSTOOD what I have been saying all along.

And I think I know where the problem lies. It is your failure or incapability to rightly understand the difference between LEGAL justification at the cross and PERSONAL justification at effectual calling. At effectual calling, what was LEGAL is made PERSONAL and VITAL to each individual elect.

Your failure or incapability or even refusal to rightly understand the difference between the LEGAL and PERSONAL extend to the LEGAL sonship purchased at the cross and PERSONAL sonship at regeneration.

As in justification, EVEN SO in sonship, there are FIVE DISTINCT phases or aspects.

Take a look at this issue here: http://pruning-deformed-branches.blogspot.com/2008/01/dazzling-multi-faceted-jewel_24.html

a. Sons by decree for all elect before time:
Eph 1:4-5 “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love, Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.”

b. Sons by legal purchase for all the elect at the cross:
Gal 4:4-5 "But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”

c. Sons by birth at effectual call:
Each elect is regenerated at God's appointed and accepted time: John 3:3-6 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God… Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 1:13 "sons of God... which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." 1Pet 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

d. Sons by experience through faith in Christ:
John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Rom 8:13-14 “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

e. Sons by the resurrection & glory: Rom 8:23-24 “And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?”

God's elect are regenerated at some point in their life, between conception and death. So let it be heard loud and clear - I DO NOT believe that all elect are regenerated from the womb or even at conception.

All the elect are personally and individually children of wrath even as the others UNTIL regenerated at God's appointed and approve time.

NOW I AM MIGHTY GLAD that you raise your objection. You are the first one to raise such objection, evidencing you are indeed thinking and studying. Honored to have a fellow student like you.

Sing
I wrote to a brother these words:

I let him raise all the OBJECTIONS he could, and the truth will answer all his objections nicely.

Then he would be ashamed of himself and conscience condemned should he choose to continue in his confusion and obtuseness.

I always welcome objections to my view... if they are VALID objections, and IF I don't have valid answers to them, I am prepared to KIV that understanding, and abandon it when necessary, i.e. convinced.

My basic premise is that God's word in inherently unified and there can no contradiction whatsoever.

Marrow
Sing...you said "God's elect are regenerated at some point in their life, between conception and death. So let it be heard loud and clear - I DO NOT believe that all elect are regenerated from the womb or even at conception.

All the elect are personally and individually children of wrath even as the others UNTIL regenerated at God's appointed and approve time."

If this is what you believe (and I don't doubt you at all when you tell me these things) then my question again is...how can you avoid the problem of an individual being born, living his life UNTIL he is effectually called, as a child of wrath and a hater of God...a natural man. If God's legal, eternal justification does not affect him until he comes under the special work of the Holy Spirit in calling and regeneration then there must be a period of time in which he is indeed a God hater and an eternally justified person at the same time.

If this is not true then please explain to me his condition...in that period of time in his life being eternally justified before God but a rebel in his unregenerated heart.

Unless regeneration is concurrent with the giving of physical life then there has to be a period of time between the declaration of his justification before God and his regeneration on earth. What condition is he in during that intermediate state?
Thanks, MM

Sing
Brother Morrow, You are the kindest man I have encountered in that you cross-examined what I do believe. No one has done it the same way you did. And your valid objections have given me opportunity to make things clearer. Many others just dismiss the whole matter and call me names but you pursued and inquired. For that, I own you as a very good brother. And I mean every word of it. You are the man, brother!

Now, coming to your inquiry. I believe the difficulty lies in your understanding of what I have said concerning our justification that was decreed by God in eternity when none ever existed. This aspect of justification, only in the mind of God concerning His elect, CLEARLY has no effect on the elect personally. In fact, the elect did not even exist them. And even when they do exist, this aspect of justification has no effect upon the elect PERSONALLY whatsoever.

The reason is simply: what has been decreed by God in eternity, and legally accomplished by Christ has no effect on each elect PERSONALLY/VITALLY until it is APPLIED to each elect PERSONALLY.

Nevertheless, the Scriptures is clear that God decreed to justify His elect by Christ, and the Scriptures is also very clear that Christ accomplished the justification for His people (those given to Him by the Father). But what is a DECREED, and an ACCOMPLISHED LEGAL fact by the work of Jesus Christ has to be APPLIED to each ELECT personally before it AFFECTS an elect PERSONALLY.

Please read what is summarized by our old particular baptists. They put it very neatly and precisely in 1689.11.4
"God did from all eternity decree to justify all the elect, (11) and Christ did in the fullness of time die for their sins, and rise again for their justification;(12) nevertheless, they are not justified personally, until the Holy Spirit doth in time due actually apply Christ unto them.(13)"

Note those few words, "nevertheless, they are not justified PERSONALLY, UNTIL....." These words presuppose that the elect were justified in the decretal sense, and the legal sense, but NOT in the personal sense... because that justification has not been APPLIED PERSONALLY. (the non-elect were never justified in the decretal sense nor the legal sense - and justification will never be applied to them in the personal sense... and they will never experience justification through faith in Jesus Christ).

If you understand this, then all your valid question about the 'intermediate state' of the elect is adequately answered.

Sing
The elects' personal condition during that 'intermediate state' is exactly what every child of Adam is in by nature.

"Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh a...nd of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."

DECRETAL and LEGAL realities do not affect the elects' personal condition UNTIL it is APPLIED to each elect PERSONALLY.

But the decretal and legal realities cannot be denied! All stated plainly for us to believe!"

3 ¶ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved."

I consider it a great kindness on your part to cross-examine my feeble understanding of Scriptures. Thanks, brother. I am off to bed!

Marrow
Brother Sing, I thank you for helping me understand your position. Justification is a completely legal term. The elect are justified through the decree of God; the nonelect are not. The elect are bought by Christ in his work on their behalf on the cross; the non-elect have no individual, particular benefit. The elect are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and thus repent and believe the Gospel. I must agree with you...only I also believe that the elect are made aware of this by the preaching of the Gospel (and here is where we must agree to disagree) and that none of the elect will be left without this awareness or in the lingo I am used to using, they will be convicted and brought to repentance and faith in this life. Much of what we have been talking about has to do with the thought patterns and language we use... You have been trained to think more precisely than I have and so your use of words is more exact. Thanks for the discussion.

I gather from your reply above that EVERY sentient child of God will have the gospel ministry brought to him, have him converted and brought to faith in Jesus Christ. Am I right?

(The gospel ministry is intended for the sentient alone - it requires hearing and understanding and believing, all of which require rational faculty.)

Apostle Paul's ministry is described like this:
"2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, 3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ."

Those three verbs - reasoned, opening and alleging - are interesting and apt. The gospel ministry treats the hearers with dignity, that they are rational creatures and capable of being reasoned with. (of course, only the regenerated can be reasoned with with spiritual things.

1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Apostle Paul OBVIOUSLY have the children of God in mind in his ministry - EVEN THOUGH he does not know who among the hearers are children of God.

Sing Do I understand this brother doesn't believe there will be some in Eternity with the Lord who have never heard the gospel, and as such can not comply with the instructions of the gospel?

I always want to represent others accurately, no matter how much I disagree with them.

Presently, I believe Br Marrow believes that EVERY SENTIENT elect of God will hear the gospel (including the pelagian and arminian versions) ministered to them, and be brought to faith in Jesus Christ.

Dr Marrow does believe that the NON-sentient elect is EXEMPTED from that requirement for entry into heaven. In this sense, he does believe that there will be some in eternity with the Lord who have never heard the gospel.

However, the gospel ministry was never intended for such to begin with!

Maybe, he can speak for himself.

I believe there will be many of God's children in eternal glory who have never heard the gospel while here on earth. There are many sentient ones who never had the opportunity to hear the gospel. These ARE in addition to the 'non-sentient' ones.

Sing, I thank you for your answer on my last question. Here is a couple of more again, I am being honest and wondering how someone who holds your theological position thinks on these things. When Paul was on trial and said to Agrippa (Acts 26: 29) that he desired that he (Agrippa) and all that heard Paul speak that day, were like him (Paul) that is Christians, was Paul expressing a fleshly desire? Also in Romans 9, when Paul expressed a desire for his brethren (in the flesh), fleshly Israel might be saved...even (were it possible...) the sacrifice of his own soul...for their salvation..was that fleshly and wrong? Just wondering how you deal with these passages because they seem at first glance to express a desire in Paul's heart for the salvation of people who obviously were not elect people. Thanks, Your learning brother, MM

Brother Marrow, I will come back to your soon. You ask really good questions. I am always being taught by good questions - drive me to study the Scriptures.

Brother Marrow, let me make sure I get your question correctly.

" 27 King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.
28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
29 And Paul said, I would ...to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

Was Paul expressing a fleshly desire?

No, not at all, but a true and sincere HUMAN desire, a genuine expression of the great commandment: "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." A child of God desires good for his fellow men generally... He desired for them the transformation that he had... once a blasphemous enemy of the gospel, but now a follower of Jesus Christ.

The desire of God is compatible with His will and decree. He WILL NOT desire nor command those for whom He did not give Christ to be their Savior to believe Christ Jesus to be their Saviour.

The desire of a child of God is compatible with God's will for him... "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" and that includes desiring the good that one has for the neighbors.

=========
The narrative does express Paul's desire for the salvation of the people under consideration... the great heaviness and continual sorrow in his heart are sincere and genuine.

There are several considerations here:

- what is the salvation that apostle desire for the people under consideration? Was it eternal salvation by God's free grace, or a salvation that is dependent upon Paul's life and ministry? Would apostle Paul be speaking of the salvation that is wholly and entirely by the free grace of God that he has so copiously asserted and demonstrated throughout the whole epistle?

I believe apostle Paul desired the temporal salvation that comes to the children of God among the Jews ONLY through believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.

- Who exactly are the people under consideration? Brethren in the flesh. Did he mean 'all the Jews indiscriminately' or God's children who are among the Jews? I believe the context demands the latter.

Apostle Paul was dealing with a very unique problem among the children of God among the Jews - even though they WERE children of God, but BECAUSE of their old covenant background, they found letting go of the old covenant very hard, and enter the kingdom of heaven by believing in Jesus Christ a great stumbling block.

When Apostle Paul stated, "For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel" - it is obvious that his concern WAS NOT with PHYSICAL Israel, but spiritual Israel among the Jews. They needed to be brought to Christ, their promised Messiah. The natural Jews WILL NEVER be able to be brought to the Jews.

Gill has this to say:
- but also our own souls, or "lives"; which is the highest expression and strongest proof of love that can be given; and respect is still had to the similitude of the nursing mother, who may be said to impart her blood, for such it her milk diversified, for the nourishment of her children: and such was the great concern of the apostles for the interest of Christ, the spread of the Gospel, and the good of souls, that their lives were not dear unto them, so that these ends might he answered: because ye were dear unto us; both because they were loved by God, redeemed by Christ, regenerated by the Spirit of Christ, and had the image of Christ stamped upon them; and also because that they were their spiritual children; and as children are dear to their parents, so were these to them, even to such a degree, as that, were there a necessity for it, they could freely have laid down their lives for them.

Sing F Lau
Brother Marrow, very interesting thought.
But I don't know what exactly is the difficulty.
If there is any, I am not seeing it yet.

Maybe the difficulty arises because we don't rightly divide the word of truth.

I take it as an established truth that God NEVER hold forth eternal salvation conditioned upon man's obedience or acceptance. It is contrary to His moral character, contrary to His revelation, contrary to reason and common sense, etc.

I believe what is involved is their temporal salvation... which demands and requires the obedience of God's people. It has nothing to do with their eternal salvation - being saved from the eternal condemnation due to their sins. It has to do with their deliverance from the judgment threatened against them for their unbelief and disobedient. God is dealing with His people, whom He has made His own by free and sovereign grace, for their unbelief and disobedience.

This is confirmed because, in the previous verses, Apostle Paul is also speaking of the temporal salvation that comes to those that do believe the gospel. Believing the gospel truth will save GOD'S CHILDREN, will bring them much deliverance, temporal salvation.

Eternal salvation came through Christ's finished work alone, and applied by the Spirit alone; all completed by free grace alone. Temporal salvation - related to our well-being as God's children - is conditioned upon our obedience to the gospel. IF YOU APPRECIATE THIS BIT, MUCH CONFUSION WOULD NOT ARISE.

After I have read enough of the Bible, the FALSITY of new school Calvinistic doctrine of the perseverance of the saints in a life of faith and obedient to the end of their life become SO PLAIN! There is no such thing in the Scriptures.

God Himself said, "MY PEOPLE ARE BENT ON BACKSLIDING!"

God would be VERY insincere if He is holding forth eternal salvation to those whom He knew very well had absolutely no capability to receive, in fact positively hostile towards God in their inward man. In fact it would be cruel and injurious mocking and taunting at them.

But that is not true when God called His people to turn from their evil ways. They are able to... in this they were able to exercise a choice... but they disobeyed. Disobedience would face severe punishment here in the present life.

God did stretch forth His hand to His people, calling them to turn from their waywardness, sending them prophets after prophets... but they rejected God's Fatherly call to make amend.

They suffered for their disobedience all throughout their history!

In the State of Grace vs. in a Life of Faith and Obedience

Who is carrying who? Which is kept in the state of flight by which?

A tiny twist, an enormous error! How so? Here it is.

At the source is this: "Those whom God hath accepted in the beloved, effectually called and sanctified by His Spirit, and given the precious faith of His elect unto, can neither totally nor finally fall from the STATE OF GRACE, but shall certainly persevere THEREIN to the end, and be eternally saved." ('Therein', i.e in the state of grace.)

This is given a tiny twist by the RBs, and Calvinists of other shades. Do you discern the enormous error?

Twisted away from the origin is this:
Every true child of God will persevere in a life of faith and obedience to the end of their life to be saved. Those who don't are never children of God to begin with."

What did the Framers of the 1689 LBCF actually summarized the teaching of Scripture. I will paste the three paragraphs here, and leave some comments.

YOU BE THE JUDGE whether what they summarized has been sincerely [sic] perverted and twist...ed into something else.

1689.17 Of The Perseverance Of The Saints
1. Those whom God hath accepted in the beloved, effectually called and sanctified by His Spirit, and given the precious faith of His elect unto, can neither totally nor finally fall from THE STATE OF GRACE, but shall certainly persevere THEREIN to the end, and be eternally saved, seeing the gifts and callings of God are without repentance, whence He still begets and nourisheth in them faith, repentance, love, joy, hope, and all the graces of the Spirit unto immortality;(1) and though many storms and floods arise and beat against them, yet they shall never be able to take them off that foundation and rock which by faith they are fastened upon; notwithstanding, through unbelief and the temptations of Satan, the sensible sight of the light and love of God may for a time be clouded and obscured from them,(2) yet He is still the same, and they shall be sure to be kept by the power of God unto salvation, where they shall enjoy their purchased possession, they being engraven upon the palm of His hands, and their names having been written in the book of life from all eternity.(3)
1. Jn 10:28-29; Php 1:6; 2Ti 2:19; 1Jn 2:19.
2. Ps 89:31-32; 1Co 11:32.
3. Mal 3:6.
=========
What is the essence of the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints?

It is saints remaining and continuing in THE STATE OF GRACE into which God has brought them freely by His free and sovereign grace.

This has been twisted and replaced with "it is saints will persevere [continue in a course of action] in a life of faith and obedience to the end of their life to be saved. Those who don't were never children of God to begin with."

God has, by His free and sovereign grace, brought His elect out of the state of sin and death and into the state of grace and salvation. By the very same free and sovereign grace, these children of God will remain and continue in the STATE OF GRACE unto eternal salvation. The same free and sovereign grace will PRESERVE them in the STATE OF GRACE.

Every thing else in this paragraph elaborates and expounds on that one point - why will God's children remain and continue in the state of grace?

Reason 1: "seeing the gifts and callings of God are without repentance."

Reason 2: "He still begets and nourisheth in them faith, repentance, love, joy, hope, and all the graces of the Spirit unto immortality."

Reason 3: And despite all "hell" on earth, "yet they shall never be able to take them off that foundation and rock which by faith they are fastened upon." [The faith by which they are fastened is NOT their believing acts, it is the precious faith of the elect that was given them at effectual calling].

Reason 4: Despite all the changes and uncertainties in the children of God, "He is still the same, and they shall be sure to be kept by the power of God unto salvation, where they shall enjoy their purchased possession.

Reason 5: "They being engraven upon the palm of His hands, and their names having been written in the book of life from all eternity."

For these reasons, they will most certainly remain and continue in the state of grace into which they have been effectually called, COME what may!

Does this remaining and continuance in the STATE OF GRACE depend in any way whatsoever upon the faith and obedience of God's children?

A very valid, and a necessary question.

Who is kept in the state of flight by which by who?

Sing F Lau
Does this remaining and continuance in the STATE OF GRACE depend in any way whatsover upon anything in the children of God, or anything done by them, like a life of faith and obedience? A very valid, and a necessary question. The Framers anticipated such a good question. And provided plain answers.
=============
2. This perseverance of the saints depends not upon their own free will, but upon the immutability of the decree of election,(4) flowing from the free and unchangeable love of God the Father, upon the efficacy of the merit and intercession of Jesus Christ and union with Him,(5) the oath of God,(6) the abiding of His Spirit, and the seed of God within them,(7) and the nature of the covenant of grace;(8) from all which ariseth also the certainty and infallibility
thereof.

8. Jer 32:40.
=============

What does the absolute certainty and infallibility of God's children remaining and continuing in the STATE OF GRACE depend on?

The Framers provided both NEGATIVE and AFFIRMATIVE answers.

1. Negatively, it does not depend on:
- Saints' free will in willing and doing anything, i.e. not even their life of faith and obedience even if that were possible.

2. Affirmatively, it depends on:
- the immutability of the decree of election, flowing from the free and unchangeable love of God the Father.
- the efficacy of the merit and intercession of Jesus Christ and union with Him.
- the oath of God,
- the abiding of His Spirit.
- the seed of God within them,
- and the nature of the covenant of grace.

3. The absolute certainty and infallibility of the children of God remaining and continuing in the STATE OF GRACE arise from these God-centred factors, and DOES NOT arise from anything in or of the children of God.

Isn't that plain enough? But you bellow, what about the 3rd paragraph? What is the point of paragraph 3?

The point of paragraph 3 is just this: this certainty and infallibility is not in doubt in the least despite all the HELL and FURY that God's children have to face as they go though this life on earth. Nothing will shake them out of the STATE OF GRACE, even though many things may cause them to make shipwreck of their faith.
Let's look at paragraph 3 then.

Sing F Lau
Would this certainty and infallibility of God's children remaining and continuing in the STATE OF GRACE be undermined by these real and grievous onslaughts? No, not in the least. They shall persevere, i.e. remain and continue, in the STATE ...OF GRACE, even though they suffer so badly that they made shipwreck of their faith, even though their earthly lives may be terminated prematurely (the Corinthians saints who fell asleep.

God's children may be dislodged from their faith, yet they shall most certainly and infallibly remain and continue in the STATE OF GRACE.
==========

Here is paragraph 3. Read its plain message.

3. And though they may, through the temptation of Satan and of the world, the prevalency of corruption remaining in them, and the neglect of means of their preservation, fall into grievous sins, and for a time continue therein,(9) whereby they incur God's displeasure and grieve His Holy Spirit,(10) come to have their graces and comforts impaired,(11) have their hearts hardened, and their consciences wounded,(12) hurt and scandalize others, and bring temporal judgements upon themselves,(13) yet shall they renew their repentance and be preserved through faith in Christ Jesus to the end.(14)
9. Mt 26:70,72,74. 10. Isa 64:5,9; Eph 4:30. 11. Ps 51:10,12. 12. Ps 32:3-4. 13. 2Sa 12:14. 14. Lk 22:32,61-62.
==========
Can anything dislodge God's children from their STATE OF GRACE? Consider all these things mentioned:
- the temptation of Satan and of the world,
- the prevalency of corruption remaining in them,
- and the neglect of means of their preservation,
- fall into grievous sins, and for a time continue therein,
- they incur God's displeasure and grieve His Holy Spirit,
- come to have their graces and comforts impaired,
- have their hearts hardened,
- and their consciences wounded,(12)
- hurt and scandalize others,
- and bring temporal judgments upon themselves,(13)

Are all these saying:
"All God's children will persevere [i.e. continue in a course of action] in a life of faith and obedience till the end of their life,"

or are they saying:
"Despite all these hell and fury God's children may have to go through life, they shall be PRESERVED in the STATE OF GRACE, i.e. remain and continue in the STATE OF GRACE to the end."

You would retort, isn't "yet shall they renew their repentance and be PRESERVED through faith in Christ Jesus to the end" the first?

I say, No! The whole chapter is about the latter - persevering in the STATE OF GRACE. The saints persevere in the state of grace because God preserve them THEREIN.

The subject matter of the chapter has been twisted and perverted into something else.

The chapter has NOTHING TO SAY about "all true children of God will persevere in a life of faith and obedience to the end of their lives."

That is just a FICTION and FABLE. It is a popular Calvinistic LIE!

Sing F Lau
Some INSIST that there is no difference between remaining in state of grace and remaining in a life of faith and obedience; that they are synonymous. They insist that remaining in the state of grace, and continuance in a life of faith and o...bedience refer to the same matter.

There is a basic and serious misunderstanding to equate the two. A simple illustration will suffice.

A STATE OF GRACE refers the our BEING as God's children. And absolutely nothing can alter that status established by the sovereign and free grace of God. It is wholly by the gracious act of God when were dead in trespasses and sin, in enmity and rebellion, were slaves of sin, and children of wrath. Our BEING as God's children is a fixed and settle matter, all by the grace of God. We were absolutely passive.

Faith and obedience refers to our conduct related to our WELL BEING as God's children. Our well being as God's children involves, and requires our active participation as God's children in our discipleship to ensure our well being. A great human factor is involved in the well being of God's children. This explains why some of God's children fare better than the others, and why some make shipwreck of their faith.

Some are strong and robust, some healthy and average many are weak and sickly, some are very sick and bed ridden... some are completely misled and fall away from the faith...

BECOME AS NEWBORN BABES: "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious."

Become as newborn babes and you are harmless to others, and able to grow wholesomely as your feed on the sincere milk of the word just like like newborn babes that feed solely on the miraculous milk that flows from their mothers breasts!

But it is mighty hard for grown up adults to BECOME as newborn babes. Nevertheless it is absolutely essential for spiritual growth and development.

A newborn babe is completely contented and satisfied with the wholesome milk from the mother's breast. He seeks and asks for no other form of nourishment!

So ought a disciple of Jesus Christ, who not only gave him life, but also the wholesome word of life to nourish that life! But that's only possible when he becomes as newborn babe!

That's truly unadulterated!

Sing, I don't want to assume one way or the other but if I may ask do you believe all of God's elect will become Christians before they die? And no, I am not referring to those outside of having a mental capacity of even understanding good and evil. I ask these things as I have heard of some things within the Primitive Baptist Church that greatly distress me.

Sing F Lau
Jason, thanks for asking, and not assuming. That's wise. Let me put the issue in the simplest way I know how. Let me say that I am not a Primitive Baptist, though I have read about them.

1. Every elect of God shall be regenerated to become children of God, all made fit for eternal glory before the end of the gospel age. Just read Romans 8:29-30 slowly and carefully.
- Does that passage include ABSOLUTELY every single elect or not? Answer this, and I will follow up with a few question for you to consider. Or begin to think of the PLAINS implications of your answer on the question you asked.

2. Of those children of God who do GET TO hear, and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, they become Christians, they are follower of Jesus Christ. These are God's children, AS WELL AS Christians.
- Some of these are become good Christians, many others are mediocre Christians, still others are disgraceful Christians.
- But they are ALL EQUALLY children of God... because their SONSHIP is by virtue of the same power and efficacy of the sovereign and gracious acts of regeneration and adoption.
- However, their discipleship as God's children varies greatly, conditioned on many factors, the quality of the ministry they enjoy, their responsiveness to the ministry to work out their own salvation, etc.

a. Of course there are God's children, and I meant the SENTIENT ONES*, who not only do not have the gospel brought to them, they are also God's children who do hear the half-baked gospel and reject them. There are also God's children, especially among the Jews in the apostolic times, who rejected the gospel brought to them by the Apostles of Jesus Christ. They were God's children who were too stuck in the rut of the old covenant, unable to move on into the new covenant.

b. *The qualification about the gospel ministry being only for those with mental capacity is of course redundant, and really STUPID, because it qualifies against something that is so obviously wrong, i.e. that the gospel ministry was ever intended for the non-sentient also!

Sing allow me to be a little more specific with you. Do you believe a muslim COULD be part of God's elect die as a muslim never having become a christian by God's grace and yet still go to heaven this is a very straight forward question?

Sing F Lau
The more specific the better!

First, let me say that there are lots of people in predominant Islamic countries and communities who may not be practicing Muslim, but are categorized as muslims nevertheless, by birth. The same happens in some so-called 'christian nations'.

I DO BELIEVE that any man who fears God and works righteousness, whatever religion he is categorized with, whether a muslim or judaizer or whatever, COULD not only be a part of God's elect but also a child of God by God's free and sovereign grace, and die but never having been CONVERTED to Christianity by the gospel ministry, and be found in glory with Jason Sides.

I live in the sea of muslims for nearly 50 years now... and I have seen and observed on several occasions those muslims that FEAR the GOD of Abraham and WORK RIGHTEOUSNESS. Blessed be the God of heaven! They fight justice for the persecuted Christian minority, they revere the name of Christ. They are familiar with the Bible, quote it in their writings... but they have profess faith in Christ.

Have you not discovered the truth Peter discovered and confessed, "Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him."

It was a big surprise to Peter that one does NOT have to be a Jew to be accept by God. And it is a bigger surprise to many that it is not whether you hear and believe the gospel that determines your acceptance with God. It is fearing God and working righteousness that EVIDENCE and DEMONSTRATE one's acceptance with God.

Was Cornelius accepted with God long before Peter came along? Of what religion was he? And if Peter did not come along, would the divine acceptance of Cornelius ceased, or be reversed?

Does God show favoritism in ETERNAL SALVATION - GOING TO HEAVEN - to those who have the opportunity to hear, and believe the gospel?

And they fear Him and works righteousness BECAUSE God has called them out of the state of sin and death to that of grace and salvation, justified them regenerated them, adopted them, giving His Spirit to dwell in them... working graces in them... which are then MANIFESTED in the reverence of God and works of righteousness! This the the only possible explanation.

Have you not read.... there were secret believers among the Jews even in the days of Jesus Christ. They feared to profess Jesus Christ openly! The fear of persecution from their fellow Jews hindered them from publicly professing Christ. Such children of God needed to be converted to become Christians. But as children of God, they are already perfectly fitted by God for eternal glory .

Is my answer straight forward enough? But Jason, just watch out that you don't misrepresent me... I know what you are up too. So, understand what I have stated plainly.

Sides
Sing, baloney you and I believe a different Gospel then.Mormons like Muslims believe on a Different Christ although very thankful Gill and many true Baptist did not propagate this kind of nonsence.

Sides
Richard, Spurgeon a Baptist and Whitfield an Anglican whom Sing said he has read would staunchly disagree with Sing's commentary they can't all be right there is a very stark difference.

Sing F Lau
Jason, it matters very little to me whether you and I believe the same gospel or not. And it matters less whether Spurgeon or Whitefield agree with me. I am contented that I am faithful to Scriptures.

I would be interested if you engage me with the Scriptures. Who cares what so and so great theologians say and disagree with me? Since when did they become the standard of your faith??? 'Scriptures alone' is just a cheap shibboleth to so many. They would rather appeal to men, and not the word of God!

Jason, make sure you do represent me correctly. I did say a muslim who fears the God of Abraham and works righteousness, and not just any muslims without distinction. Or for that matter, not just a muslim, BUT ANYONE who fears God and works righteousness GIVES evidence that he is a child of God, perfectly and completely FITTED for eternal glory by God's free grace, regardless of whether he hears and believe the gospel or not.

Of course, of course, it would be VERY GOOD if such do hear and believe the gospel... because the gospel will save them from so much errors and lies, the gospel informs and instruct them the truth of their salvation that HAS ALREADY happened by God's grace.

And that is the urgency of the gospel ministry... not to get people to heaven, BUT to instruct and inform them of the truth of their salvation by God's free and sovereign grace, and to reproof them and correct them, and to train them in godly living... in their life here and now... as they wait for their eternal inheritance by God's free grace from beginning to end.

Sides
Sing funny how you could care less what Spurgeon and Whitfield believed but yet you claim you spent the time to read there writings do not expect me to believe that. Secondly most of your comments seem to be that of a copy and paste format of what some Primitive Baptist believe so yes let's appeal to scripture. Jason, may I ask you a straight forward question too?
For this passage in Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen."

DID every one of the great multitude which no man could number - of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues - mentioned here, hear the gospel and become Christians while here on earth?

This is a very simple and straight forward question!

Indeed you believe a different gospel!

Sides
Sing what makes you think they didn't? Secondly you dismiss my commentary perhaps because you do not have an answer. I have also asked before if you witness to people you denied answering me and probably because you believe in a false gospel. Beware many will come saying did we not do thus and that and he will declare depart from me ye workers of inquiry. Beware of the wolves as they come in sheeps clothing.

Anyone see in Revelations 7:9 different religions nope not I. Sing you twist scripture worse than a pretzel at least Mormons admit they have another Revelation from Christ.

Sing F Lau
I love it when you appeal to Scriptures...That passage reads like this.
13:1 ¶ There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Did you note the word LIKEWISE... LIKEWISE... LIKEWISE. How did the Galileans perish? They perish by suffering BLOODY and CRUEL death. That's the destruction spoken of. It has nothing about gaining eternal life or getting to heaven. And it is pretty plain that only that who are ALREADY BEEN GIVEN eternal life that are able to believe.

But almost every one believe that this passage speak about eternal salvation or eternal destruction! All blind leading the blind!

Luke 13:1-5 speaks of perishing in calamities, not about perishing in eternal hell. People perished in disasters. The Jews were warned that they would LIKEWISE perish if they repent not. Christ was warning them that they would LIKEWISE - LIKEWISE - LIKEWISE perish under the hands of the Romans in the coming destruction of Jerusalem. If they do believe, then they would take heed of Christ's warning about the impending destruction coming upon Jerusalem in 70AD!

Oh Jason, read and study the Scriptures, and learn to rightly divide the word of truth!

Sides
Sing study to show thy self approved. Even Satan used scripture to blind the masses. A Muslim is an Antichrist and since you approve of them I feel you are in an even worse circumstance being a pastor blindly leading others to a false hope.

Sing F Lau
So, just stick to the Scriptures, and it would benefit both of us.

Jason, I asked you a very straight forward question on Rev 7:9, why don't you give a straight forward answer. That way, there would be profitable discussion. What is your take? Why bring in the Mormons? I want to know Jason Sides' answer to my straight forward question.

Sing F Lau
How many real muslims have you met and lived with? Have you met one who fear the God of Abraham and works righteousness? Have you? if you have not, I suggest you hold you peace, and cease foaming!

Sing F Lau
Jason@"Even Satan used scripture to blind the masses."

Show that I have twisted Scriptures. You can offer your interpretation of the passage under discussion. Don't just go off tangent and rave irrelevant stuff!

Hart
Brother Sing, is ritchurd saved eternally for the quality of his own faith, or is it by the 'faith of Christ' upon which any believer has such eternal hope?

So many seemingly have faith in faith.

I think, Apostle Paul said the gospel is preached from faith to faith.
Surely one having FREELY received faith is able to receive the gospel message. I think too that many will never in this lifetime have opportunity of hearing a true gospel message.
Thank you, Brother Sing for rightly dividing the word of God which is for my edification!

Sides
I have no peace with those who claim Christ is not Co equal to God as do Muslims and since you agree with them I have no peace with you.Rev 7: 9 is clear all kinds of people will be saved some were saved then past tense some being saved present and others not even alive yet will be saved and rejoice unto Christ throughtout the entire world this passage has nothing to do with saying all kinds of religions teach and proclaim the same Christ.

Sing F Lau
Yes, the gospel is preached by one who has the Spirit of God dwelling in him working the grace of faith in him, to another one who has the same Spirit of God indwelling in him, working the same grace of faith.

The act of believing is the manifestation of the grace of faith worked in the heart by the indwelling Spirit... the evidence of the possession of eternal life, given by God's free and sovereign grace. I am a child of free and sovereign grace...

Sing F Lau
Jason, I do ACCEPT any man a child of God who fears the God of Abraham and works righteousness... BECAUSE God Himself has accepted them. I do endeavor to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to them... and they may not openly profess faith in Jesus Christ.

Have you not read the similar situation among SOME Jews - "As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes." Ro 11:28.

Sides
And some Jews believed on Christ all those who were of the elect of God those who did not before they died were not chosen of God. Sing you can believe your rightousness will save you till your blue in the face but God calls it a filthy rag how dare you think you could be saved by a filthy menstral rag.

Sing F Lau
"Rev 7: 9 is clear all kinds of people will be saved some were saved then past tense some being saved present and others not even alive yet will be saved and rejoice unto Christ throughtout the entire world this passage has nothing to do with saying all kinds of religions teach and proclaim the same Christ."

Jason, please stop raving about things irrelevant to the discussion. No one is saying that the passage has anything to do with with saying all kinds of religions teach and proclaim the same Christ. Who has said that Islam proclaims the same Christ of the Bible?

In relation to Rev 7:9, do you know that there have been nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues who had perished/disappeared from the face of the earth WITHOUT the gospel message ever reaching them?

How then did individuals from those ALL those nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues found in heaven?

And do you know some of those tribes mentioned in the Scriptures? Here are some from Genesis... Were any among them found in heaven? If yes, how? Because they heard and believed the gospel? Please give a reasoned answer. Please NO RAVING nor foaming!

Sing wrong again you claimed Muslims along with others who deny Christ can and will be saved so my statement is very relevent. Until you are willing to stop twisting the scriptures I have nothing more to say to you.

Sing F Lau
Jason, when did I ever say that my righteousness will save me? Thou shalt not bear false witness - 9th commandment.

I did say that a man, whatever his religion may be, who fears God and works righteousness DOES SO because he is already a child of God by sovereign and free grace without the hearing of the gospel. Hearing and believing the gospel is ONE evidence of having eternal life. Fearing God and working righteousness are also evidences of having eternal life.

I expect this basic rules in communication: if you cannot represent the view of your opponent fairly you have forfeited you right to speak!

Sides
You do not work rightousness nor believe in God if you deny Christ or teach a false Christ hence your statement is a false assumption that Muslims do.

Sing F Lau
Islam denounces Christ as the Son of God.
I have met 'muslims' who don't! They fear the Fod of Abraham and work righteousness.

So, you need to make a distinction between Islam and Muslims... just as you need to make a distinction between Christianity and Christians. I have nothing good to say about the religion called Islam. I do have some good words for some muslims. I have everything good to say about Christianity, but no good words for a vast number who claim themselves christians.

I do believe some muslims (i.e. those who fear the God of Abraham and works righteousness) will be in heaven, while many so called Christians of the west (who fear not God nor work righteousness) will find themselves in eternal hell!

Thankful that you have decided to hold your peace. Your raving and foaming betray a woolly and confused mind.

Sing F Lau
Jason@"You do not work righteousness nor believe in God if you deny Christ or teach a false Christ hence your statement is a false assumption that Muslims do."

This is obviously STUPID statement.

Cornelius was ALREADY working righteousness WHILE he has no knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Cornelius was ALREADY believing in God when he has no knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Whoever is denying Christ, or making false assumption about Muslims? You are the one with obtuse mind, incapable of representing what I said correctly.

What I said about concerns some 'muslims' who DO fear the God of Abraham and works righteousness. And you FOOLISHLY and PERVERSELY equate my words as describing ALL adherents of Islam!

Your question was, "Do you believe a muslim could be part of God's elect die as a muslim never having become a christian by God's grace and yet still go to heaven this is a very straight forward question?"

I said a muslim who FEARS the God of Abraham AND works righteousness IS a child of God and die as 'muslim' never converted to Christianity through the gospel ministry, and STILL go to heaven.

I did give a straight answer, but you in your perverseness, twisted it out of context.

Glad that you have decided to hold your peace. Your raving and foaming betray a woolly and confused mind... as so many RBs are!
