Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Mr. Spurgeon's Gouty Moments

The Prince of Preachers was having his gouty moments

The Prince of Preachers was having his gouty moments.

Look at his statement. Sadder still, his words are mindlessly quoted by so many as the gospel truth.

If his statement is true, then by necessary  implications, EVERY elect without exception, are EQUALLY converted, sanctified, and faithful. Otherwise, the mighty, efficacious, and irresistible grace of God have failed spectacularly.

Common sense tells that these are not true.

However, every elect is equally regenerated:
- on the exact same basis, the righteousness of Christ applied,
- by the exact same Agent: the Spirit of God,
- in the exact same manner; freely by the Spirit,
- to the exact same extent; no one is more or less regenerated,
- with the exact same effect: eternal life.

Diverse human factors are involved in the conversion, sanctification (practical), and faith of a child of God. This is elementary.

Yes, that is not true. Many regenerated Elect were not able to hear the gospel.

FYI, many of the PB Churches in the area where I live, have articles of faith that were accepted in the early 1900’s, and earlier, that agree with Spurgeon’s position.
Most are still in existence today.

I saw this meme earlier. There is found in scripture, a surety of faithfulness in God's full work on a believer; and most certainly, I'm sharing these verses, knowing you all have read them before.

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”

Romans 8:29-30 KJV

Now, in this all-encompassing list of magnificent works, we do not see conversion or sanctification.

The thief on the cross.
One minute, he spoke the same things as the other.

The next?
He simply began speaking the truth concerning who Jesus was.
Something or Someone got to him and he showed that change by what he said.

There were no baptism, no Bible verses to remember, no religious affiliation, no chance to restore or make amends, and no gospel preached for him to believe.

Reggie, Amen, precious truth.

Amen, Brother Sing. Jesus Christ will bring many sons to glory, but few enter the strait gate. The "few" is a very small subset of the "many".
