Sola fide is a great and injurious lie of the devil!
Supposing a Benefactor, without your knowledge whatsoever, FREELY credited a $1b to your personal account in addition to paying off ALL your debts while you were a condemned and declared bankrupt.
He then sent his servant to bring the good news of what he has done for you, and exhorted you to believe the good news. (Good news is message of what has happened; good news is not an offer of something good will happen to you if a condition is met by you, i.e. good news is not a conditional offer!).
And supposing you believed the good news of the Benefactor's FREE and gracious act, and believing, you go to the bank to draw on the money that the great Benefactor has credited to your account, thus able to EXPERIENCE the blessings of what has happened.
Wouldn't it be SCANDALOUS and TREACHEROUS and CRIMINAL of you to claim and insist that it was your believing the good news and going to the bank THAT CAUSED the gift to be freely credited to your account by the Benefactor? (You have perverted the good news of what has happened into an offer with that kind of understanding!)
The truth is, your believing and going to the bank EVIDENCES and DEMONSTRATES that the great deed HAS BEEN DONE for your sake! If the Benefactor had not done it for you, there would have been no such good news to be brought to you, nor any good news for you to believe! Moreover, the good news brought to you was NOT an offer that "if you will believe the offer, and go to the bank, the money will be credited to your account!"
Your believing or not believing in the good news does not in the slightest manner affect the reality of the things that are already done for you! But your believing enables you to experience the blessings of those things already done for you FREELY by the Benefactor!
Yet so many insist that... they are justified before God by or through their faith in Jesus Christ! Upon their believing in Jesus Christ, God justifies them, i.e. God accounted to them the righteousness of Christ upon their believing in Christ! What a lie! What a delusion!
Sola fide, that a sinner's justification before God is by his faith alone, is a great lie of the devil - it is treacherous and scandalous, injurious and criminal.
Do you begin to understand the great issue involved?
It is not just semantics; the devil will whisper that into your ears!
It is Christ's honor and truth at stake!
It is well known that Luther called justification the articulus stantis et cadentis ecclesiae — the article of the standing and falling of the church.
Luther's 'sola fidei' is a doctrine of the devil! The church has been told a big lie! The church that believes "justification before God by faith alone" is a fallen church, has succumbed to the lie of the devil.
