"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."
Has it ever struck
your mind why the Holy Spirit inspired Apostle Paul to use the words "with
fear and trembling" in working out your own salvation?
Those words surely
not only imply the urgency and necessity of doing it on the one hand, BUT ALSO
the grave consequences of neglecting it, on the other, do they not?
Has this thought
ever crossed your mind, dear brethren? I pray that you give those few words
some thought.

Truth? Clearly, there are two salvations addressed in the bible. One eternal and
another in your time on earth. I see this verse as an admonition to do exactly
what it plainly states but is so hard to not stray from. Just my opinion.

What would be the
consequences for a child of God not working out his own salvation?

Perhaps we can look
at Lot (nephew of Abram) and Saul (son of Kish) as examples. It seems clear to
me that God worked salvation in them (see 2Peter 2:4-9 and 1Samuel 10:9,
11:6-13) and yet they did not work it out in fear and trembling. Thus, their
time on earth grew more and more useless and miserable, but I still hope to see
them in glory.

Mat 5
29 And if thy right
eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for
thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should
be cast into hell.
30 And if thy right
hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for
thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should
be cast into hell.
Is this one reason
to work out one's own salvation with fear and trembling?
What is the hell
spoken of?
