Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Why has doctrinal preaching disappeared from churches?

A pulpiteer entertains goats;
A minister of the word feeds sheep.

Sir, I noticed that churches tend to stay clear of theological  doctrines in their sermons. And even Dr.bc also prefer to focus on the application side of the Scriptures only. Is this the correct way to preach?
========

What you observe is a common phenomenon; it's sad and tragic. Often, the preachers themselves are clueless about the vital doctrinal issues involved. ALSO, that's what the congregations want, and demand too.

Doctrines will choke many. Heb 5:12-14

However, sound theology/doctrine is the ground/foundation on which the applications/practical godliness thrive.

Read the Epistles to the Romans and Hebrews, for example, and observe closely the many "therefore" of applications AFTER careful laying down of doctrines line by line.

Apostle Paul would labour to lay out the theology/doctrine first, followed by the applications of the theology/doctrines. That's the apostolic precedent and pattern for the NT ministers of the word.

2Tim 4:3 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears."

Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Titus 2:1 "But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine."

Many modern churchmen and pulpiteers LOATHE sound doctrines.

Why did Christ, the head of the church, give the FOUR teaching offices to His church?

(only the last is normative; the first three were unique to the apostolic church.)

Ephesians 4
¶ 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

How many believers are still like children TOSSED TO AND FRO and carried about with every wind of doctrine!!!!!
