Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Experiential/Practical Justification

What is counted unto Abraham for righteousness?
Is it his faith or the righteousness of Jesus Christ?
Righteousness is at the heart of justification.
Abraham's faith in the promised seed is counted unto him
to experience the blessedness of his justification
by God's free grace while still in the Ur of the Chaldeans.
In Gen 15, Abraham experienced the blessedness of his justified state
through faith in the promised seed.

#experiential_justification

Apostle Paul marshalled Abraham to refute the Judaizers' insistence that the Gentile believers must keep the ceremonial laws; they want to bring the Gentile believers under the yoke and bondage of their geriatric ceremonial laws, being wilfully ignorant that the ceremonial laws had been abolished by the redemptive work of Christ.

Apostle Paul demonstrated that Abraham experienced the blessedness of justification WITHOUT the work of keeping the ceremonial laws - long before the ceremonial laws were given through Moses. Abraham was ALREADY justified, freely by God's grace before Gen 15:1-6; in Gen 15:1-6, he experienced the blessedness of his justified state through faith in the promised Seed.

- The BASIS/GROUND of your LEGAL  justification is the righteousness of Christ alone;

- The MANNER/METHOD of your VITAL  justification is the free grace of God alone;

- The MEANS/INSTRUMENT of your PRACTICAL justification is your faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Christ's righteousness is counted unto Abraham for his justification is NOT THE SAME as Abraham's act of believing is counted unto him for righteousness. There's an unbridgeable gulf between the two; the former is legal justification by the righteousness of Christ, and the latter is experiential justification through faith in Christ.

If you understand these things concerning the biblical doctrine of justification, you have grasped more than many theologians and preachers.

May our Lord bless you to know these things.

A biblical distinction is the essence of sound theology.
