Ro 4:16
"Therefore it is of faith, that it might
be by grace; to the end THE PROMISE MIGHT BE SURE TO ALL THE SEED; not to that
only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham;
who is the father of us all."
Does your understanding of the gospel of
Jesus Christ meet this acid test: that the promised redemption might be sure to
all the seed?
Does the popular sola fidei - i.e.
"justification before God by man's act of believing alone" stand the
acid test?
It is of WHAT or WHOSE faith, that it might
be by grace; to the end that the promise might be sure to all the seed, without
exception?
The thinking ones will teach themselves. The unthinking ones continue with their soundbytes and shibboleths.
At least that was my experience.
Adam Wells
I was going over the problems of "Sola
Fide" just last night with Fawn. We looked at a church's statement of
faith and the doublespeak was obvious. In one statement they said salvation is
by grace alone but requires faith although faith is only the instrument and not
the means of salvation. (No doubt you've heard this before.) Does that make any
sense??? Maybe people follow it simply because it sounds educated.
Matthew Carl Eastland
It is safe to say that the average person in
most churches (or any religious place) in the world are those who are prone to
follow. I would use the term "sheep" but that would imply too much of
a relationship with the true God.
Most of them go along with what they have
always known and follow blindly or follow whatever new trend strikes them (also
blindly). Few truly know what they believe, let alone why they believe it.
So, contradictory nonsense is easily written and followed by such people, with the writing done by those who actively deceive in order to keep their own places and power.

What does faith as the only instrument of
salvation do? How does it defer from faith as the means of salvation? Honest
questions I wish to ask them, assuming words have specific meaning. Often when
I start to ask questions, I am accused of splitting bones and marrow.
Aaron Milyard
Jesus Christ called the Pharisees blind
guides. In Luke 5:21(And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying,
Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?)
the Pharisees said something that was and is and will forever be correct, but,
they put it in the form of a question. Satan did the same thing in the very
beginning. "Ye shall not surely die" said Satan. And look at where we
as a human race are today. We have to exercise something in and of ourselves to
make it to heaven? I'm sorry, but when does something dead have the ability
towards action?
Sing F Lau
Were you answering my questions?
Aaron Milyard
Sing F Lau, no sir. But to answer your
question, if I understand them correctly. Faith is what is planted within by
the Holy Spirit in regeneration. So if someone has faith and exercises it you
can mark it down that they have been born again. Faith cometh by hearing and
hearing by the word of God. When we hear the truth preached and we act on that
faith by the hearing of Gods word preached it gives us comfort from despair in
life with regards to what may or may not happen. What I'm saying is, we can
still live our lives despite what may be happening around us because through
the faith that has been planted in us by the Holy Spirit we know where we will
spend eternity. This is called resting in the finished work of Jesus Christ
rather than resting in human ability to make it to glory. Man has no glory of
his own wherewith to boast of.
Aaron Milyard
Anymore it seems that it's not even possible
to make anybody think. If they're set in their mind on something they won't
even consider what we say even if they're "made" to listen.
"The man convinced against his will; is
of the same opinion still."
Pray the Lord will open and touch hearts and minds to the truth.
Sing F Lau
After a good man has taught me to ask
questions, I began to learn, and cease parroting or regurgitating.
Aaron Milyard
Nothing wrong with parroting or regurgitating
something if it's truth. I wasn't referring to not speaking of biblical truths
to others. That is surely needed, but if the Lord isn't in the matter the good
result will be hindered.
Sing F Lau
Every man considers what he presently
believes as the truth, 😉
Aaron Milyard
Sing F Lau, I would tend to agree with that.
However, it is in his carnal nature that he does so. Only by prayer and seeking
God's word for truth and answers will we find absolute truth. Yes, I've found
myself in error many times.
