Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Putting something into the box, or
Taking something out of the box?

 #Eisegesis #Exegesis

With the former, a man can make the Scriptures to say virtually any fanciful ideas and fables. This can be done with some imagination and speculation.

With the latter, a man is refrained from saying what the Scriptures do not say, even though he may still end up drawing out what's not there.

Exegesis involves labours of study and mental exertion.

1Timothy 5:17 KJV - Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV — Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

labour - kopiáō, kop-ee-ah'-o; to feel fatigue; by implication, to work hard:—(bestow) labour, toil, be wearied.

No, kopiáō is not sipping your cups of black coffee, kopi-O, under the grapevines or fig tree.

Look down into any deep and clean well carefully... you may see many things, including your own lovely reflection, among others. One thing is certain, you can draw up only life-nourishing and thirst-quenching water from the well.

Jas 3:11
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

2Pe 3:16
As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Eisegesis has its dire consequences to God's children: SHIPWRECK!
1Tim 1
This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck.

Let us strive to be better students of God's HOLY word; not a few of us have all been guilty of eisegesis along the way; none are exempted from prejudices and baggage.

May the Lord forgive my sins.

You ask for yours if you have any.
