#meditating
Below
is a question to our dear SDC pastor and brothers for our mutual learning and
growing together in the Lord for our greater usefulness in the King's service:
Q1.
Is meditating on God's word daily possible for all of God's children?
----------
1Timothy
4:15
Meditate
upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear
to all.
Psalms
1:2
But
his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night.
A
few thoughts on the question:
-
It’s not a simplistic either-or matter. Not all living people are healthy and
robust, many are sickly and weak; even so, among God’s children. Some sincere
children of God are so busy that they say they don’t even have time to empty
their bowels daily! Some are too old to have the mental capacity to meditate.
Others are not spiritually minded to meditate.
So, it’s NOT possible for ALL God’s children to meditate on God’s word,
much less daily.
-
To meditate on God’s word is both a heavenly privilege and blessing; even so,
with our daily bread! When partaking in physical food for our bodily
nourishment becomes a chore and a burden, it is a clear sign of health decay;
even so in the spiritual realm.
-
To meditate is to think/consider/reflect about something carefully; to meditate
on God’s word (lower case ‘w’, i.e. Scriptures; upper case ‘W’ refers to the
second Person of the Triune God, the eternal Word) is to think/consider/reflect
on God’s word carefully – its meaning and doctrines, and its lessons for us.
-
To meditate on God’s word requires an inquisitive and learning mind, pondering
on what has been read – what does it say, what are the practical lessons.
-
Meditating God’s word is POSSIBLE for many of God’s children if they want to;
some of God’s children may not have the mental or spiritual capacity to
meditate. God’s children with carnal minds do not have the mental capacity to read,
much less to meditate on God’s word.
