Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Looking for a church?

LOOKING FOR A CHURCH?

A needful question, and a helpful counsel!

A man inquired:
Is there a church in my area that you can recommend which teaches the same doctrine that you do?  I live in Appomattox county, Virginia.

He received this wise counsel.

Dear Friend,

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ – He is Lord of all!

Thank you for your inquiring email.

We receive requests often that are similar to yours. Do not despair. We are living in the perilous times of the last days, when a new brand of Christianity is threatening the saints and churches of Jesus Christ. Please read II Timothy 3:1 - 4:5 as a single lesson warning Timothy about the rise of an effeminate, compromising, carnal, and worldly brand of Christianity. The times would be perilous, because Christians would love pleasures more than God, have only a form of godliness, and turn away from the truth to fables and entertainment.

Here is our document on II Timothy 3:1 – 4:5: http://www.letgodbetrue.com/sermons/pdf/perilous-times.pdf.

If I were you, I would search your city and area for churches going under these various names:

      1. Primitive Baptist
      2. Particular Baptist
      3. Strict Baptist
      4. Sovereign Grace Baptist
      5. Reformed Baptist
      6. Landmark Baptist.

When you find a church, either from its website or a visit, determine the following:

      1. King James Version only.
      2. Preach election and predestination.
      3. Preach against Catholic holidays.
      4. Sober assemblies with strong preaching.
      5. Holiness evident in speech and dress.
      6. Obvious love to visitors and each other.
      7. Godly appearing children and youth.
      8. Preaching against the world for holiness.
      9. Lively church with zeal in pulpit and pew.
      10. Good proportion of God-loving youth.

I am sorry that my answer is not more cheerful, but rejoice that God has chosen you to live in the perilous times of the last days and earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3).

Please call on us, if we can do anything else to serve you in the gospel of God's dear Son.

I am also copying this email exchange to a pastor friend of mine in Virginia.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and yours with courage, wisdom, and strength to remain faithful in this perverse generation.
