Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few

Matthew 9
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Sir, may I ask a question?
Does the Lord of the harvest send every believer as a labourer into his harvest?

++++++++++++++

The harvest is truly plenteous.
Words have plain meanings!

1. The HARVEST is truly plenteous
- what constitutes the harvest?|
- who has produced the harvest?
- how is the harvest produced?

2. The harvest IS truly plenteous
- the harvest IS already there.
- the labourers DID NOTHING to bring about the harvest.
- the Lord of the harvest has produced the harvest, and He has produced that plentiful harvest WITHOUT any help from His labourers!
- He sends His labourers to gather in the harvest He has already produced.
- He didn't send His labourers to grow the crop, nor produce the harvest. He sends them to gather in the harvest!

3. The harvest is truly PLENTEOUS
- The harvest He has produced is not just plenteous but TRULY plenteous.
- Christ has redeemed for Himself a truly VAST multitude out of the fallen race of Adam. Rev 5:9
- God the Father is effectually calling the redeemed out of their native state of sin and death to that of grace and eternal salvation in Jesus Christ.
- These are the HARVEST spoken of by Christ; He sends labourers to gather them into His churches.

Those effectually called to grace and salvation need to be gathered into the churches. That's the work of the labourers sent out by the Lord of the harvest.

The text speaks of Christ, the Lord of the harvest, sending out labourers...
This is NOT the same as every believer doing the work of an evangelist.

Many misguided pastors brainwashed their church members into believing that they are all labourers sent out by their Lord to be evangelists.

"Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into His harvest."

Just a few obvious (I hope!) thoughts.
