Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

As Obedient Children

The sheep following the shepherd;
Obedient sheep

As Obedient Children

1Peter
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17 ¶And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

If we are to be OBEDIENT children, these mindsets are prerequisite, (without these, obedience will be so much the harder)
- Gird up the loins of our mind
- Be sober
- Hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought
- Have reverential fear of our Father

(These forms the four main points of the message preached at the second service last Lord's Day.)

These will greatly assist our work in rendering obedience to God:
- negatively: by not fashioning yourselves to the former lusts in your ignorance,
- positively "be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
- This will aid in practical obedience in all the different areas of our life.
