Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

The day of the Lord

The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
The day of Christ
The promise of His coming
The day of the Lord
The coming of the day of God...
The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
The day of Christ
The promise of His coming
The day of the Lord
The coming of the day of God...

Writing to the Gentile believers, Apostle Paul wrote:
¶ Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
(2Thess 2 - circa AD 57).

Writing to the Jewish believers, Apostle Peter wrote:
3 ¶ Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?... 9 ¶ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 ¶ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
(2Pet 3 - circa AD 66)

Are the two Apostles speaking of one and the same? Why?

Are the two Apostles speaking of one and the same, or are  they speaking of entirely two different things? Why?

Don't be carried away by sound. Rightly divide the word of truth, and get the sense of what they are saying to their respective audience. Note the context.

The term is used extensively by the holy prophets in the OT...
Should we describe 70AD as "the day of our Lord" as described in 2 Peter 3:10?

## The term occurs often in the prophets, chiefly indicating the coming divine judgment upon Israel.
Isa 13:6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
Isa 34:8 For it is the day of the LORD’S vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.
Joe 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
Am 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
Zep 2:2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you.

There are enough other occurrences, these  will suffice to prove the point. Apostle Peter was writing to those who are acquainted the OT Scriptures, and the very term itself is understood by them.
