Two flying dolphins!!! |
There is no need to pretend they are the same!!!
The Calvinists declared:
"By the decree of God, for the manifestation of his glory, some men and angels are predestinated unto everlasting life, and others foreordained to everlasting death...." WCF 3.3
The Old School Baptists declared thus:
"By the decree of God, for the manifestation of his glory, some men and angels are predestinated, or foreordained to eternal life through Jesus Christ, to the praise of his glorious grace; others being left to act in their sin to their just condemnation, to the praise of his glorious justice." 1689.3.3
Just as the dolphin is distinctly different from the cow, so are Old School Baptists from the Calvinists!!!
The OSBs believe in election and preterition.
The latter believe in election and reprobation.
The OSBs believe God passively left the non elect to their just desert.
The Calvinists believe God actively damned the non-elect to everlasting death!

By God's grace I'm a old school particular baptist, and most definitely not a new school calvinist.

Alright Brother Sing, You stated thus. The PBs believe in election and preterition.
The latter believe in election and reprobation.
The OSBs believe God passively left the non elect to their just desert.
The Calvinists believe God actively damned the non-elect to everlasting death!
preterition is defined; The act of passing by, disregarding, or omitting. 2. Law Neglect of a testator to mention a legal heir in his or her will.
Doesn't this mean, that being passed by and being disregarded for salvation, they are also left in their natural state of sin and death and therefore reprobate concerning the faith.

Brother Dellis, you ask a good question. The non-elect are left in their natural state of sin and death. These are by-passed concerning the salvation.
The reprobate concerning salvation and the reprobate concerning faith are very different issues.
The reprobate concerning the faith is a term used in reference to God's children. Some of God's children are reprobate concerning the faith (i.e. not the same as reprobate concerning SALVATION!!!) because they oppose the truth of God.
2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
It is a common fact that God's children oppose and resist the truth of the gospel... i.e. the Arminians and Calvinists are reprobate, reject concerning the faith! They both resist eternal salvation by grace alone!!! They are NOT reprobate concerning their eternal salvation!

I
have seen posts by quite a few calvinists which refer to themselves as
the only ones who have the faith once delivered unto the saints. They
will state with boldness, that because others do not believe as they do,
eg. the arminian free will concept of salvation, then they have not, this faith unto salvation. If I understand you correctly, there will be many in heaven, who never thought they would be there, because they believed, but remained reprobate concerning the faith?
What God said to Elijah,
Romans 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
Is it possible that God has done this in every denomination that nameth the name of God today?

There
are Calvinists who dismiss other Christians as reprobate concerning salvation just because they do not believe their calvinistic idea of salvation. They are convinced that unless a man holds to their idea of salvation they can't possibly be saved by God, to begin with! Haughty and presumptuous they are! It is entirely possible that the mind of God's children are pretty messed up... thus, as far as holding to the faith once delivered to the saints is concerned, they are REJECTS... cannot pass the Quality Control test with respect to that body of gospel truth! But such is equally justified, regenerated, adopted, and glorified - all in the same MANNER (by grace alone) and on the same BASIS (the finished work of Jesus Christ).
There will be many in heaven who WERE THOUGHT by others that they would not be there... there will be great surprises! If one understands free grace well enough, the surprise would be minimized!
There are God's children in every church group... many of them would be reprobate concerning THE faith once delivered to the saints.

Thanks again! It's always a pleasure talking to you.
