The meme in this article, http://www.inspiremore.com/marriage-killer/ caught my attention; it illustrates an axiom, "unrealistic expectation is the bitch of all frustration"; closely related is "uncommunicated expectation is the bane of annoyance." I substituted the noble word "mother" with one that is apt for the evil spawned.

The axiom probably applies to all sorts of relationships. Let your expectations of others match those that they have of themselves.

But if you are convinced that their expectations of themselves are below their persons or dignity, then help them to raise their expectation of themselves.

The gospel not only makes plain God's expectation of His children, He also raises their expectation of themselves as God's redeemed and purified unto Himself.

Tit 2:11
¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
