Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

Yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary

O the glorious beauty of the grace of the LORD... Eze 11

The self-righteous Jews who were left in Jerusalem mocked and scorned at those who had been exiled to Babylon, saying, "Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession." (11:15)

They despised the exiles as defiled, cast off, God-forsaken, and presumptuously considered them as dispossessed of their inheritance in the LORD.

But how did the LORD rebut and rebuke them, even the "men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city"? (11:2)

Read these stirring words of the LORD's abounding grace to the exiles; try listing the promised blessings one by one...

16 Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.
17 Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
18 And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.
19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
20 That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
And these words of just and righteous judgment to the haughty and presumptuous princes of the people in Jerusalem:
21 But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.
Rejoice, Brethren!
(part of the things we learned in the Bible study this Wed evening.)

Please note these precious words,

"... YET will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come."

But the glory of the LORD departed from the Sanctuary in Jerusalem.
The institutionalized churches that boast themselves as the favoured ones of God are forsaken of God. And those despised by them are shown abounding grace, " YET will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come."

Oh, what tender mercies! Justly exiled but not forsaken!
