Things New and Old

Ancient truths revealed in the Scriptures are often forgotten, disbelieved or distorted, and therefore lost in the passage of time. Such ancient truths when rediscovered and relearned are 'new' additions to the treasury of ancient truths.

Christ showed many new things to the disciples, things prophesied by the prophets of old but hijacked and perverted by the elders and their traditions, but which Christ reclaimed and returned to His people.

Many things taught by the Apostles of Christ have been perverted or substituted over the centuries. Such fundamental doctrines like salvation by grace and justification have been hijacked and perverted and repudiated by sincere Christians. These doctrines need to be reclaimed and restored to God's people.

There are things both new and old here. "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things"
2Ti 2:7.

How easily, and quickly the people of God ape the world...

The newfangled way aped from the uncircumcised Philistines!

How easily, and quickly the people of God ape the world...

Brother HC, who led the morning service yesterday, read from 2Sam 6:1-8, and aptly reminded us of the evil propensity of the people of God aping the world; and how easily the people of God forget divine commands and biblical examples on how to conduct ourselves!

THANKS Brother HC!

You know the story... David wanted to bring the Ark of the LORD in Gibeah to the city of David.

2Sa 6:3 "And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart."

Did David seek for divine counsel in such a solemn task?

Did the king consult the priests?
Did the priest advise the king of the proper way to do so?
Did any of the thirty thousand chosen men of Israel that were with him alert him?

Did any one speak up? Didn't any one notice something was gravely out of order?

Where did David get his newfangled idea from?

1Sa 6:2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place... 7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them: 8 And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart.

"Hey, that's the latest method, and it works perfectly well; even for the uncircumcised Philistines!"

But there had been countless occasions when the Ark of the LORD was transported in the way the LORD had commanded. Why were they forgotten?

Too tired of the old ways? Itching for the fables? Beware.
King David was given a severe "slap" for his carelessness, and foolishness!

2Ti 4:4 "And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
